new SE owner

I just bought a DE89 from MajorBurnz, which arrived today. To my surprise, included was a GEM SE razor.

So now I'll be reading through the SE section to learn about them.

It is a neat razor, can't wait to try it.

You may hear that model referred to as a Flying Wing or Bullet Tip. I haven't used one but it's supposed to be a mild but smooth shaver.

Do you have a Walgreen's or CVS near? They sell shave quality Gem SE blades.

Yep. Micromatic safety bar, lovingly known as the flying wing (or bullet tip).

When I thinned my SE razors the flying wing was one that I kept. I seem to get the best shaves from that and the model 1924.

If you don't like that razor you won't like SE razors

Same thing happened to me. Started with an ER 1912 thrown in when I bought an ER brush. Now I have like 10 SEs.

Go ahead and give in to the AD. To fight it is senseless. You can't really avoid that newest acquisition. When you think you have all you need in razors, the shave cream/soap AD will kick in.

I started with the G-Bar and now have 13 with what I hope will be 2 more on the way.

That 'flying wing' is an art deco beauty! I have only three SE's, all very recently arrived: two G Bar/FHT (one shave so far) & one 1912 (as yet unused), but having seen this one my tally is going up to four. To say I liked the FHT shave is an understatement....
I'm also a newb to SE shaving but a (fairly) old hand with DE....looking forward to the singular journey too.

Pete - I just bought a couple of pipes myself - a Lorenzo Spitfire (Italian?) and an old Ben Wade ( made only a mile or so from where I live). I suspect the Wade needs a good clean but the Spitfire smokes like a dream. Yippee, another new adventure!

steviebee, get some pipe cleaners and alcohol and swab the stems out real well. Also a twisted paper towel with knock a lot out of the bowl.
