New razors to shave den

Thanks for the supportive comments to my shave den photo http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=95232 . Pablo h commented that I had only two razors.

Well, I've taken care of that deficiency. Ventured into ebay territory and found a 1957 (C-1) Super Speed Flair Tip. A first time bidder, I found the process easy (too easy for my own good) and was successful. The razor is a delight to use. Lighter in weight and less aggressive than my EJ and Merkur, my shaves were "speedy".

Then I decided to look for a Slim Adjustable on ebay. Found one that looked good, and with hubris, placed bids, expecting win. Wrong! Lost to a last second bid.

That was unacceptable. Found several other Slims the next week and in a fit of midnight madesss, bid on 4 separate razors. The first to close was the cleanest looking, I bid agressively and won, a 1968 (N-4). My maximum bids were in place on the others, as I helplessly watch events unfold. Lost the next one to close (whew!). Hoping to lose the last two as well, someone else bid on the third but didn't counter enough. The last was no contest. So I now have two 1966 Slims, (L-1 and L-4).

I'm sure my experience is raising a few chuckles. I'm laughing at myself as I recount the story.

Anyhow, I now own enough razors to support a decent rotation. It's interesting to use different settings on the '68. I'm facinated by the TTO mechanism of the Gillettes. To think that these were mass produced, they sold for just a few dollars in their time and still function today is mind blowing.

I'm keeping the two '66 Slims out of rotation until I decide what do to with them.

So Pablo h, I hope you're satisfied! I've tripled my razor inventory, and I'm glad I did. Thank you for the nudge.

Your humble wet shave wannabe,

Hi David,
I like your story and your early Shave Den. I'll bet it doesn't look the same now. I once had three auctions going on the same model razor. After you win one it's very stressful waiting for somebody to outbid you on the other two. Fortunately for me I lucked out by being outbid on both, but one was in the last minute. That was close.
