What's new

New Purchase

Just purchased an EJ 89l from a member here who was kind enough to throw in a stick of Arko and made a blade sample kit for me as well. Arko works very well and I'm impressed with the latherability (is that word?). I read on here someone commented "The smell of Arko would stop a charging rhino". A comment I'm still laughing at...

What I find interesting is that with this new razor all of a sudden I'm a fan of Astra blades. Before with my cheap Lord razor I couldn't stand them. They were harsh, nicked up my face and gave me razor burn. Now it's smooth as all get out and cuts extremely well.

I tried a Personna Red (guess that's what it's called, it was in a red wrapper) and while it scratched a lot when I used it...I have neither razor burn or nicks. Great shave...still seem to prefer Astra so far.

I'm with you on the EJ and you'll find a lot of admiration for that razor here. Also the Astra. Every time I here the name of that blade though I think the wrapper should have a dog with collar and a hovering car next to it. Futuristic name for a blade. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

I've been using an EJ DE89 and the Muhle R89 for around 4 months now and I love them both. Astra SPs are one of my favorite blades to use. It didn't take me long to figure out that they were good blades in those razors. Other blades I've found that work well for me in those razors are the Personna Reds, Crystals, Gillette 7 o'clock SP's (blue) and Feathers. Those five blades I've found work very well for me in those two razors and are the ones I've pretty much settled on buying in bulk. I've picked up 100 packs of those five blades but I plan on occassionally picking up 5 or 10 packs of other razor blades of different varieties in the future..... but right now, between those five, I've got over 1,300 blades total.... which will last me years. I love the EJ DE89, but I'm about to step into the world of open comb with the arrival of a Muhle R41 2011 from Connaught Shaving in a few days. It will be interesting to see how those blades perform in the R41..... and it will be interesting to see how my face handles an open comb.

I'd be interested in knowing what your thoughts are vs the EJ DE89 with your new razors. Thanks for the heads up on blades that work well.

I got several razors and several blades.

I have bought a couple of sampler packs but, am using the store bought razor blades before I start sampling the sampler pack.

But, I bought many different razors and that will be the trick in finding what works well in each of these razors.

I have the R89 too which is basically the same head as the EJ89 and Astras are the only blades I use. Great shave every time and no irritation. Couldn't ask for more.

i've had the Muhle 89 (sold), EJ Barley (traded), Chatworth Horn (sold) and regretted selling all of them (except the trade, which i got a BRW for).

i recently purchased from the BST, a Muhle handle as well as the Blk EJ and Chrome handle and 89 head. so i know have 1 head and 3 handles to swap.

the 89 has been in use for the past week and i'm loving it again. It's a rock solid razor, fantastic price and is a real looker as well.

stick a sharp blade in there (i'm using Polsilver right now) and enjoy. 3 pass, BBS every day so far.

U got a great razor in the EJ89L. That was my very 1st modern razor and it will always have a place in my shaving den. Glad that U like the Astra SP. That is my favorite blade. I still sample a lot of blades but I always go back to the Astra SP.

WARHAWK

Today is day #2 with the Personna Red blade. I had about a day and a half of growth to wack off and I wasn't real pleased with the blade. Yesterday was scratchy...today was both scratchy and pulling. I ended up with a nice shave just didn't feel real good. I half way thought about trying the Feather today with that much growth....perhaps another day.

What is the diff. between red and blue Personna's? I have both....

Glad you had a great shave today :) It's interesting to me how that Astra blade sucked in my old razor but was glorious in my new one...*shrugs* Some things make no sense lol

EJ fan as well. With that said I finally revisited the Astra SP in my Slim adjustable. Set on 5 it was shave Nirvana.

Decided to toss the Personna Red and try a Feather for the first time. That was the most comfortable, closest shave I've had in a long time.

Personna Blue was a much better blade than the Personna Red. The first shave I had with the Feather was awesome however the 2nd was not very good at all. Not sure what happened. For sure like Personna Blue's better than either the Red or the Feather for right now. The new brush I was PIF'd from Kooze is amazing! I'm not used to such a soft brush :)

Pictures of the new razor, amazing arko and incredible brush. I can see why people pay the money for a better brush. This brush is extremely soft on my face and am enjoying it immensely.

The Razor is amazing as well! Weighs a lot more than the cheap Lord razor I was using...I get closer more comfortable shaves with this set up including the blade sampler Kooze sent with the razor I bought :)

A friend gave it to me. Said it was a badger brush with a fireside pottery handle with a 20-22mm knot. I don't know anything about brushes but this one is much better than the previous one I was using :)
