New Nakayama From Alex Gilmore

Hey Gents,

Just wanted to show some pictures of my new Nakayama Asagi that I just got from the Japan Blade (Alex Gilmore). It is a Nakayama Tomae "Light" Asagi. The dimensions are 133x80x25mm and it appears to be a very nice stone; perfect size for straight razor honing! The colors on this stone are beautiful as well...The HGAL rating for this stone is 5/5+/5+/5+, so it should work perfectly as a finishing/polishing stone.

I am going to begin using the stone with DMT slurry to kind of get a feel for what the stone can do on it's own. Alex was also nice enough to include 2 Tomo's with the stone, so I will mess around with those as well. Then, once I start to learn the stone, I will try doing a full nagura progression on it....I am very excited to own this stone as Alex spoke highly of it...

Thanks a lot, guys! I am looking forward to giving it a good home where it will be used a lot. I frequently buy/sell a lot of stones as I like trying out different things, but if this stone is as good as I think it's gonna be then it'll be a heirloom piece for sure....

LOL....Dang, I didn't think to take pics of it with slurry!! It'll have to wait until I get home from work this afternoon...

Very nice stone JP, that's the one I very nearly went for, I hope it's as good as it looks I went for a different stone, for that I will start another thread.

Here are a couple of more pics....one wet, and one with a little slurry raised from a DMT 600 credit card....you can see how the color turns when water is added....although the lighting is different too....
