What's new

New Home-Brewed Brush..

So - I cut this handle, and then I placed an order for a few seriously overstuffed knots.. here's the first prototype after its first shampoo.
At this point I'm very pleased - but I won't know until it hits the lather tonight.

Beautiful.
What type of wood?
What type of finish?

what size knot? what's the loft? what kind of hair? where's the knot from? how did it arrive? was it carried by swallows? were they african or european?

cummon man, we need answers!

First - It would be carried by swallows... not sparrows

Having said that, it would have to have been an African swallow - see, In order to maintain air-speed velocity, an african swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right? ...

Oh - never mind.... :0).

The wood is Curly Maple.
The knot was ordered as at 22mm
The plug measures 21mm
That dense wad of hair above the plug measures 27mm.
Loft from top of handle to tips is 53mm
Hair type reqested was finest - Tips are very very soft, feels like a silvertip almost.
I custom-ordered a few knots from a supplier in China. I got three of them, one each; finest, super, silvertip.

The finish is clear enamel.

Just used it for the first time - face lathered with Velobra menthol... awesome...
In a day or so I'll try loading some Harris sandlewood in a bowl. That'll be the real test...

It does inspire awe. The shape is reminiscent of Simpson's Keyhole. I held a new Keyhole 4 in my hands today. Yours is vastly more beautiful! Congratulations. Maple is such a beautiful wood.

Thank you - Good eye! Actually, it is nearly exactly the same as a Simpson Keyhole #4. Someone here on B&B supplied me with the dimensions and I got verrrrry close to matching those dimensions perfectly.
The knot is not the same of course, and it's wood not plastic.. which to me is a more inviting material to hold and lather with most of the time.

This one turned out to be a champ first time out - I'm going to let it dry for another day and give it another whirl.
