New Coticule from The Superior Shave

First of all, let me just take a moment to say that customer service even close to what I received at The Superior Shave is not only rare, but I thought near extinct. I ordered the Coticule on Friday afternoon, received an e-mail over the weekend informing me that it was delivered on Friday, and then I received it earlier today. Talk about fast service! It was pretty incredible.

It's hard to see in the picture, but this thing has quite a bit of red speckled in. Also looks like it has an interesting texture, but feels smooth as silk to the touch.

This is what Jarrod had to say about this particular bout on the website;

"8mm minimum depth, 72mm shortest facet, 143mm shortest
hypotenuse, 72x126mm largest perfect rectangle within. No inclusions anywhere; hints of
red throughout the stone, especially to the right.

This coticule's not really superlative in any sense, but damn good in many. Hardness and
speed are middle of the pack, but sharpness off slurry and from water-only finish are both
excellent.

All of my coticules have come from them. If you're looking for specifics Jarrod will work with you and find one in his stash that will match your request. They are good folks to work with and try to get some stuff from them often. Hopefully they are a able to expand the line a little more.

Jarrod is great to work with. In fact, I have a nice new toy heading my way, courtesy of the superior shave and my superior blackjack skills. :tongue_sm

No, but I doubled a soft 19 to the dealer's 6. Not only was it the correct move, it paid off, to boot. :thumbup1:

I tend to lose money fast at blackjack. Craps is where I almost always come out on top.

Anyway, here's a couple more glamor shots of the stone,

An absolute beauty!

IMO coticules are the most beautiful of all the natural hones.
Imagine coticule-flooring :w00t:

Or atleast a coticule-table in the kitchen.

Every coticule has it's own characteristics, but they all deliver a very similar result in the end.

For those of us that aren't in the States, you can buy coticules straight from the mine in Ardennes. http://uk.ardennes-coticule.com/index.asp?id=384
They are very helpful & have an extreme knowledge about those wonderful stones.

Ah, the smell of fresh coticule-slurry in the late hours, when everyone else has gone to bed. Priceless :thumbup1:

How does Superior Shaves prices compare to the other Coticule sellers?

I just checked their site & from what I can see they have fair prices.
And seemingly a lot more knowledge on coti's than most of the other sellers out there.

I haven't found any cheaper. Even if I could save a few bucks, I'd still go with Jarrod for his excellent descriptions and communication, his fast and free shipping, and to support one of B&B's great vendors.

This just came in the mail yesterday-

I agree completely, and my first coticule was purchased straight from Ardennes. Jarrod has made me a customer for life.

That Bergischer Lowe is an amazing beauty! I've been tempted by that straight on and off for a couple years now.

Wow! Beautiful

I ordered some Cella last night while at the airport waiting for my connecting flight and I got an email from him saying that my package is shipping today.

I think his descriptions are what sells me. He describes the coticules he uses very well and he will pick out a stone with your particular characteristics. 3 out of my 4 stones came from him.

Ardennes is fine, but the prices on The Superior Shave are good.

I had to wait for two months for a stone from Ardennes --- and then it wasn't as described to me. Still hones great, though.

Next one I buy will be from a CONUS vendor.

His price was about 60 bucks less than the competition. That's enough to throw in a coticule.

I've been pricing coticules for a while now. And i was thinking about going with Ardennes or with the vendor on ebay that has a lot of Buy It Now sales. But it looks like i better go with The Superior Shave. Thanks for the info guys

Count me in as another supporter. Jarrod provides outstandingly quick service, prompt communication, and has some of the best prices.

Hi Bryan,
Nice stone . Do you know which quarry or layer this is from (i.e., is it a "La Petite Blanche", La Grise, etc...Just curious

Have you field tested it yet?
