New Brushes

I've always wanted to get a great shaving brush but didn’t want to pay the prices they want for them, so I decided to make my own.

The first attempts where a 22MM Silvertip and a 24MM Finest Badger w/extra hair from The Golden Nib. They work fantastic, but I was not happy with the handles I made. So, I sold them to a couple of converted co-workers to recoup my cost and started working on something a bit more pleasing to the eye.

After making about a dozen different shapes and sizes, what I ended up with is a nearly matching pair of black walnut burl handles (which is a local hard wood) finished with polyurethane. I fitted them both with more of The Golden Nib’s excellent brushes - both Finest Badger w/Extra Hair – one 24MM and one 22mm.

I picked the Finest Badger brushes because they load up off the puck a little better than the Silvertip.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Here they are pre-bloom 24MM - 22MM:

Great job!

I'm also glad to see a 22 & 24mm side by side, for comparison sake.

The handles look the same size - is the hole drilled to the same depth in each? Wondering if the height difference is solely due to the different knots.

If I remember right, the 24 is about 1/16th inch deeper than the 22. The 22 is a shorter knot.

very nice Chuakar, I am considering making a brush handle myself and picking up a knot from Golden Nib!

I'm really impressed with their knots!
It's amazing how much better they work up a lather compaired to the AOS Best Badger I already have. A few seconds for the Golden Nib knot - a couple minutes for the AOS.

Jump right in! I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.
I know I was!:thumbup1:

And Thank you
