What's new

new blade

Hi Gang

currently using Merkur Super blades with my Merkur 38b long handle. Getting a decent shave with them. Getting time to order new blades and was wondering what you might suggest for a sharper smoother blade with my 38b?

Thanks

I always recommend Astra superior platinum in the 100 count carton when asked for a recommendation. They are sharp, smooth, and forgiving enough for a new shaver to build their confidence.

AND.... they are around a dime a peace when bought in 100 count packing

The Astra SP is a great blade. But what I would do if I were you is get a blade sampler that includes an Astra SP. That way you're not stuck with a bunch of blades you have to trade away if they're no good for you because of course ymmv. Try as many blades as you can. My advice.

I was looking at the Astra sp and the Polsilver super iridiums. They seem to be the two that pop-up most in my searches with decent recommendations

I've never used a Merkur blade, but from what I've read almost anything else will be sharper/smoother.

I'm not sure the blade samplers are any cheaper than just purchasing a bunch of 5 packs. You can do the math.

I'd recommend Astra SP, any of the Gillette 7 O'clock blades and Personna Labs. Get a bunch - it's the only way to find out what you like.

so what would you guys think of this grouping

Gillette 7 oclock black box
yellow box
Gillette silver blue
Polsilver super iridium
Personna lab blue
Astra SP

+1
