New Belmont Deluxe -- 1935

Here's a quite beautiful 1935 British made -- for the French market -- New Belmont Deluxe. It is a 2-piece razor and has the same patent number as the #77 and #88. But is it chrome or silver? And what about that unusual stamped stylized "G" in the shield logo under the head? Anyone see one of those before?

It's got a great heft and is a very effective shaver -- as are most New-type razors. Haven't seen too many of these around and I was glad to get this one from my friend in Bordeaux. The other one I had gotten didn't come with the original case -- so this is a nice addition.

wow, I missed this one. The first thing I noticed was the G in D that includes the diamond! Man, the English really went the extra distance to produce razors. That is a special set.

Jake, when you were commenting on the craftsmanship of yesteryear, I believe the English were at the pinnacle.

Some additional photos of the New Deluxe with a gold-plated new Deluxe -- also processed using the Photomatix software's HDR tools. The gold razor is the usual 3-piece design -- the French silver-plated is the 2-piece -- as seen above.

They are like cousins -- not really twins, but so similar and so different. But the one thing that is common between them is that they're both 75-years old and as beautiful as when they were new.

Always amazes me how beautiful these classic razors are. Functional antiques that are so aesthetically impressive.
