What's new

New Amouage - Anyone experienced it?

Evidently Amouage just released a new fragrance:

Memoir Man ~ a leather woody fougere with notes of absinthe, wormwood, basil, mint, rose, frankincense, lavender, sandalwood, vetiver, guaiac wood, amber, vanilla, musk, oakmoss, leather and tobacco.

Memoir Man was developed by perfumer Karine Vinchon

Just wondering if any of you scent hounds have picked up the scent to give us some feedback...

Wow, that is quite the bill of notes, if that is the right term. "a leather woody fougere" from Amouage, though. I am fascinated to try it!

I, too, was intrigued. That's why I posted here hoping that one of the more active members might have some experience. I decided to TOFTT and order a sample from Zaharas... I also asked them to throw in a few samples of some juices by Arabian Oud (just to tempt Henry)!

Just this morning I got an email from Zahras about these 2 offerings from Amouage.

Amouage has launched a plethora of fragrances in the recent past and after trying their OPUS trio & being disappointed, I am not really going to go out of my way to try out these new fragrances. I think my focus now is on 'lighter' frags due to the approaching summer.

I just took delivery of my sample and my initial impression (haven't yet really gotten a good wear - that will be tomorrow) is HOLY SCHMOKES! This is some very nice juice.:thumbup:

Amouage describes it thus:

The new fragrances are inspired by Baudelaire. Memoir Man features notes of: Absinth, Wormwood, Basil, Mint; Heart Notes: Rose, Frankincense, Lavender Absolute; Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Guaiac wood, Amber, Vanilla, Musk, Oakmoss, Leather and Tobacco

I get the basil and mint very well off the top. The rose is there, but not the star in the middle and the woods/leather forms an outstanding dry down.

Along with Memoir, I got a nice selection of ouds to try - this is rounding out to be a fun week!!!!

I tried the Memoir Man recently. It struck me as kind of an "everything but the kitchen sink" kind of scent. I got the mint, basil & rose right away, but also the wormwood. And while I like good absinthe, I don't like the scent of wormwood. At all.

Wound up wearing it for a few hours and then realized I was feeling kind of a low-grade nausea from the scent, so I tried to wash it off. Soap and water muted the smell, but didn't get rid of it. I could still smell it on my skin the next day, post-shower. And that was from only 1 spritz of juice.

The stuff is STRONG. You've been warned.

I'm really enjoying it a lot today. In the drydown, I'm getting a great mix of sandalwood and cedar...

I'm wearing the Memoir Man today and I really like it. To describe it backward, the drydown reminds me of a subdued, restrained version of Vintage Tabarome. But the opening? Absinthe and mint catch your attention, a passage through lavender and into a warm woody, leather. It isn't as aggressive a fragrance as other Amouge creations. In fact, this stays pretty close to the skin. I like it a lot, but I don't love it enough to buy a bottle. At least not yet.

I need to come back to this one and try it again. My intial impressions were that there was too much goiing on at once with it! But it was a scent I had really wanted to like.
