What's new

New '52 Gillette Super Speed!

So I got a new razor today, my first super speed!! It came in the original box along with 2 new/old Gillette blades and the instructions! Very cool. :thumbup1:

The razor itself is in almost pristine condition. Seriously, it looks brand new and doesn't really have any scratches on it. The opening mechanism works perfectly and it's really clean on the inside too. I only paid $30 for it on ebay, so I consider that to be a pretty good deal for a NEW looking vintage Super Speed. Oh, the date code is X-1, so the beginning of '52.

The pictures aren't the best, but you get the idea. Just trust me that the finish on this razor looks brand new. It seriously looks as new as my Merkur HD on my counter. Needless to say I'm a little bit giddy about its arrival. I'm going to give it a vinegar bath and clean it with some alcohol just to disinfect it a bit, but there's no grime to clean off! Then I'm going to load it up with a new Feather and try it out tonight or tomorrow morning. :thumbup1:

Thanks guys! I just cleaned it up a bit. It really didn't need it, but I like to have a "fresh" start. I soaked it in a vinegar-water solution for about 20 minutes, brushed it a lot afterwards. Then cleaned it off with alcohol. Then I used a rag, Q-tips and metal polish and gave it a polish wherever I could fit the rag and Q-tip. Then I gave it a real thorough cleaning with warm water, soap and a tooth brush. Dried it off and it is beautiful and good to go!!

I tried to take better pictures this time, hopefully you can see the shine of the head! The handle is in equally good condition with no scratches or marks. I felt like I lucked out with this one. :thumbup1:

Thanks everyone!!!

I had a couple of shaves with it this weekend. It shaves as good (or better!) than it looks. I used a Feather blade, and in this razor I got the best of both worlds, i.e. sharpness of the Feather and smoothness of this razor. I will need to try other blades out, but this Super Speed+Feathers works well for me!

I'm so envious. An X1 is my birth day razor -- March 1952. I do have an X4, so at least I have the '52 part taken care of. Just gotta find one nine months older!

Congratulations. That's a beauty.
