neutral splash

I'm looking for a neutral aftershave splash. I tend to use a shave soap, after shave, and cologne on the same lines; but I don't have Tabac aftershave or the like. As I'm expanding my colognes, I figured it would be useful to have a neutral aftershave; a splash should wash away the remaining EO from the soap.

I tend to avoid mentholated things, and I'm not sure menthol would go away in a few short minutes; otherwise I might be tempted to Aqua Velva or SCS Blue Line. Actually I find Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum interesting (unlike menthol, it seems to contain cassia and provide a gentle warming sensation to the face), but the smell is wonderful and strong.

I considered SCS Hydro, but that seems to be discontinued.

Thoughts?

The SCS Hydro is the right answer. I didn't know it had been discontinued. Sue may have some of it sitting around that you could buy. It's a great splash. Makes your skin feel wonderful.

Cool. Well there's none listed on the aftershave page! If it's not for sale it must ... not... be for sale! Which means they stopped selling it! But maybe she's got a bottle around, I could ask.

I love bay rum, and somehow moved away from balms and milks and lotions to just splashes.

On the cheap, I'd go with Barbasol Pacific Rush. The menthol feeling will stick a round for a while but the scent is weak, and should be subdued by any cologne.

I'd also recommend Witch Hazel. Personally, I think the absolute best WH is Thayer's Medicated Superhazel, which contains a fair amount of alcohol for a WH (21% I think), camphor, and peppermint. It's great on the skin.

I've also been seeking out some splashes that Nivea apparently makes that seem like they'd be great as far as being nice and mild, but I can't find them anywhere, so my next step is to email Nivea. I'll keep everyone updated if I find anything out.

In my experience, the scent from the SCS Blue Line Menthol is very short lived. Much shorter than Aqua Velva Ice Blue.

+1 witch hazel. For a while witch hazel was all I used for an after shave. Until I smelled Clubman and was hooked.

Witch Hazel is cheap, works good, easy to find and the slight scent is gone within seconds. If I am going to put on a cologne later then I use witch hazel after my shave.

The Lucido is very nice. I would also strongly suggest you try out The Shave Den's sensitive splash. You can get it in a sample size and you can specify whether you want it with or without menthol.
