It's sold by Manyrazoz on ebay. I bought one of his razors a while back and it had a bent tang. Buy it if you like but beware it might have flaws, minor or major. I think there are better deals to be had.
i saw that too. reminds me of the "san souci". which sells for around $65-$75 range. but thats just looks. i have never tried either one for shaving. the san souci did get decent reviews on here though.
Solingen is a town or region (not sure honestly) in germany where good razors are made. I suspect that razor is not actually made there and is probably made in pakistan... and therefore useless garbage. There will be no good models of that brand. Avoid it. If you want a cheap recent razor, your best bet are gold dollar razors which are made in china and relatively cheap. The steel they use is good (pakistan-made razors use steel that is far far too low quality to actually make a razor out of), but the quality control is iffy, so don't be surprised if your razor is difficult to hone.
Also these razors will not be ready to use new, they need to be honed prior to use... which costs about the same, sometimes more than the razor itself (with gold dollars). I believe a member here sells used razors that are prehoned but a bit rough looking quite affordably, and most people seem pleased with them.
The other alternative is to buy a modern razor from a european maker (Dovo and a few other brands still make razors) but these seem to be right around the $100 mark and unless the vendor hones them, will possibly need honing, the same as the gold dollars, although the quality control is superior.
I've bought vintage and one new Sansoucci razors from him before and the razors I received were good with no issues. They weren't shave ready to my standards despite the claim, but the bevel was properly set.
Although he has sold vintage razors, the razors he's selling now appear to be old blanks or new grinds of old blanks.
The Cowboy brand name is an old and respected name, but the trademark had expired some years ago. The same with Sanssouci. These are definitely not original Cowboy or Sanssouci razors. I have no idea who has registered the brands or who is supplying the razors to Manfred, but the new grind I received was good steel and professionally ground.
No way that razor is from Pakistan. The tang lacks that "stamped out" look. And Indont think I've ever seen a double shoulder stabilizer on a Pakistani razor.
China maybe (rebranded GD 300 sort of thing), or perhaps it is actually made/ground in Solingen. Looks pretty much like a vanilla Dovo.
A new razor for about $70 seems like a fine deal to me.
You're more than likely right there. I would tend to suspect it's a China or less likely in my eyes, a Solingen grind a third party is faking into cowboys.
Cheap looking stamps. Solingen on the scales. Modern injected plastic scales. All warning flags.
Do the people saying the seller's reputable believe it's actually a "Cowboy", even after someone pointed out that there is no Cowboy trademark any longer, and seeing that it obviously isn't a match for their vintage razors? And if they're going to lie about that, why wouldn't they lie about it being Solingen? If it's a GD, you're paying four times too much at least. If it's an unmarked Dovo, it'd be worth more sold as an unmarked Solingen grind than a fake looking Cowboy, so why would they do that?
If you look at reverse side pic, the jimps don't reach the full width of the spine. Rare for a Solingen to show that lack of QC.
I bought one on a bad case of the SRAD after reading some posts about 7 months ago about them. As Greybeard says, it wasn't shave ready, and the scales aren't great but the blade itself is good. Looks good, shaves good. Needs new scales. Feels more like stainless vs. carbon steel. Overall, not bad. Try posting a WTB on the BST and see if you can save some money. Honestly, I'm off the SRAD right now and planning on keeping mine.
