Need Help Naming my New Firearms Business

Hi Everyone,

I have pondered the notion of becoming an FFL Dealer for quite a long time and finally decided to take the plunge. I have secured all of the necessary applications and approvals from both local and Federal Officials and have most of my affairs in order with the exception of one very important thing: The Name.

I have seen similar threads in Firearms enthusiast forums, and the responses are largely immature i.e. "Strippers & Guns" etc... This is not the sort of image that I wish to project. I will have a very small internet based operation, and wish to cater to the serious enthusiast as well as the novice shooter. I like names like Delta, Black Ops, and Elite but I am not military and don't want to come off as a poser.

Perhaps those of you with Marketing or Branding experience could weigh in? I don't want to use my name, but I want the business name to have a nice ring to it without offending anyone's sensibilities. One option I came up with was Lands & Grooves Arms. Of course there have been others, like "Resolute Arms" and "The Arms Locker" but it appears as though someone else beat me to those. I just seem to be having a mental block. Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Regards,

Bobby

It might help to know a little more about your location, expected market, and focus. I would stay simple and not go for a name like "Lands and Grooves" that the casual or novice customer may not get.

Armament Supply
Liberty (Patriot) Arms & Supply
Alpha & Omega Arms - the first and last place for all your shooting supplies

Your profile does not say where you are located.

To update your location profile:

1) Click Settings at the top of the page
2) On the left sidebar under My Settings click Edit Profile
3) Scroll down and enter a general location (how specific you want to get is up to you)

Let us know where you are going to open your shop (at least in which state it is going to be in).

Why not look for a local landmark or geographic feature to use in the name. You know, something locally recognisable, that sounds good for those who don't know the area too ...

Wise choice.

I think the word "professional" comes across well, as in "Professional Arms and Ammunition", or something along those lines. The word "Pro" has lost all it's influence to me in that department.

You Guys are great, I am in the Northeast, Vermont specifically. I plan to cater to the online community, both collectors and folks who just want a plinker and hope to sell everything from 1911's and AR's to Colt SAA's and shotguns. Basically, a tell me what you want and I will endeavor to get it. I do not plan on keeping an inventory at home as I am not keen on opening up my Home to total strangers. Naturally I wouldn't be opposed to transfers and what not for aquaintances. I have always enjoyed collecting firearms, and have had both good and bad experiences in gun shops, so I know how to treat people. Hearing the way shop owners have spoken to the Mrs. has also given me a template on how not to cater to any potential Female Clientele.

I want to present a Professional business and hope that word of mouth and stellar service will pay off in the end. I don't want to over-think the name, but I really wanted it to have some meaning. I thought of Founder's Arms...something to honor our founding Fathers, but at the same time don't really want something like Second Amendment Armory. I am not trying to make a political statement. It just seems every time I think I've got it, a quick Google search proves I wasn't the first one to think about it. I gather that unless trademarked or an existing business in my State, I can use any name but in terms of websites and what not, it makes it difficult.

Heritage Arms Many of them
Resolute Arms Seems to be a few out there (Though I really liked the name)

Like that Alpha & Omega Arms SteveWY that was pretty good!

I appreciate all your suggestions and welcome more!

I don't know much more than diddly squat about Vermont, but my minimal amount of googling leads me to these:

Green Mountain Firearms/Green Mountain Arms (these are probably taken, given your location)
Unity Arms
Republic Arms
1791 Arms

"Freedom and Unity" is the state motto. Using either of those words in the name would be very Vermont :001_smile

When choosing the name of my company I wanted it to have a "ring" to it that would prove memorable so that may be a consideration as well. Your industry is ripe with ideas. With the Vermont location and the product line - goodness, it seems there would be so many choices. The sense of heritage, timelessness, our nation's founding... whatever you come up with is going to be great.

Agreed Captain, I thought of Heritage Arms etc...there just seem to be so many of them out there. I appreciate the feedback!
