If the brush is an heirloom I would contact Rudy Vey, he's a professional and can be trusted with such an item. I'm confident in my abilities, but would not want the liability if something did go wrong while working on a non replaceable item that I did not own. You can find Rudy's contact info in the vendors thread I believe.
+1, except I'm not confident enough in my abilities as I have made a mistake on every brush that I have worked on. Of course I managed to find away to make the mistake go away, I just wouldn't want to put the extra pressure on myself.
Nice. How big is the recess?
There is one on eBay right now, still has the knot in it.
Big upgrade with the new knot. I'd toss that in my Dopp!22mm hole with a 10mm depth. It's a pretty small handle. It was a travel brush that had a 16/17mm hole originally.

It looks the same to me, "vintage Bakelite rubberset pure badger"This peaked my curiosity, and I went on a search for it. I believe the one you're referring to is slightly different, yes?
