need close cut without irritations at the neck area

hello!

I want to give the closest possible shave at the area of "dewlap", but no matter what, I cant achieve this.

Moreover, I end up with irritations at the base line of the hair area (just above the clean neck area)

Any solution?

Thanks!

By the way, I have trouble shaving close on the lower area of my neck as well. My issue is that area tolerates one pass and that is it. When you describe your routine then people can advise where and how you might make improvements.

Ah, you kids! May you all live long enough to get one. Here's the def:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewlap. Having one , I really hydrate with very hot water. I use a tallow based soap which helps a lot. I use either a Gillette Aristocrat or an old style 3 piece oc razor with a crystal blade and I go slow and easy I find for my neck the open comb is marvelous and leaves me with a dfs to a bbs , ymmv. I don't press when shaving the ole turkey waddle(google it kids) but let the head and blade do the work and keep my skin stretched tight. For me a sharp blade and a mildly aggressive razorks. Enjoy!

Sounds like first step is read the shave wiki. In short take a look at your shave prep. What are you doing to soften your whiskers? Can you do better? The softer your whiskers and the more swollen they are with water, the more comfortable and closer will be your shave. Learn how to do a proper lather with brush and soap or cream. Then pay attention to technique. No pressure. Watch blade angle. Make two or three passes, for example with the grain and then against the grain, or with, across, and then against.

I have had some success with lowering my chin and turning my head, to present a more malleable surface to the razor. Seems counterintuitive, but I get a reasonably close shave under the jawline with very little irritation when I go XTG along that "bulge".
