I discovered this board last year when I was surfing the net to buy a good shaving cream for my dad and needed to replace my 20 year old shaving brush . Learned about wet shaving. Read tutorials and watched different videos about shaving, lathering etc. One thing led to another and I ended up buying a Savile Row 3824 for my self, an EJ silver tip (fox horn) for my dad and a Shavemac #177 23mm for my brother. I searched this site and read a lot of reviews before buying these brushes and other equipment and accessories. I am glad I did. Thanks for contributing.
I have been using an EJ DE89BL for almost a year now. A few days ago I accidentally dropped it in the sink and it broke. The handle just came off. Back to using the Gillette proglide until I buy another DE. I think that I should get an adjustable this time. Something more advanced, may be more aggressive since I now have some experience using a DE. I have been reading reviews and discussions about different razors and need some advice. Think I should buy two razors this time, one as a back up just in case . I think that I should get one adjustable and one fixed.
Should I buy a Merkur Vision or a Merkur Progress? I am leaning towards the Vision unless there is something I missed that makes the Progress a better choice (price not a factor).
Not sure if a Slant is better for close shaves than a Vision (but its not adjustable). It could be my second razor but I was thinking of getting a different brand for back up. Sometimes I think that I should just re order the EJ DE89. But I have already used it. I like it but want to try something different. Something a little more aggressive I think, need help on this one.
My beard is rough. After 4 passes with the EJ DE89 I still have to do some cleaning up in certain areas to get the closeness I desire. My technique, I think, still needs some improvement because sometimes I cut myself more than I should. In almost a year I have cut the top part of my lip at least at three different occasions while shaving the area between my nose and lips (is this normal or is it just me?). It mostly happens when I am in a hurry (wife yelling etc), or being too picky (during third pass going against the grain, sometimes I think that I should not shave against the grain in this particular area?). I should watch the videos again and work on maintaining the 30 degree angle.
So my beard is rough and skin is normal with somewhat oily T zone. I use Proraso shaving cream and soap, make lather in a bowl, use preshave oil by "Shave Secret" (my neck area is sensitive, if I do multiple passes, which I do), Proraso aftershave splash and "Geo F. Trumper Skin Food". I have bigger than average hands (and face ) I think, so may be razors with short handles may not be suitable for me? I hope this helps. Thanks. Back to search for me.......
