What's new

NC Piedmont Triad

All right. I know you're out there, we're just scattered out across the world of B&B. Do any of you fellow Tarheels know of any of the Hispanic/Asian/Indian/Italian stores in the Triad that sell creams and/or blades and other shaving supplies?

I was curious before I begin one of my "Never-Ending Quests", as my wife calls them, if any of you have already gone ahead of me and discovered shaving goodies in the Triad. I would like to get my hands on some more Arko cream, and am very interested in Godrej, and whatever else they have to offer.

If no one knows of anything in the Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem areas, then as I discover those that do, I will post here in the future.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Golden India restaurant, in Winston-Salem, has a small grocery store inside, with Indian import products. I have not checked it out yet, but know people who have bought candy, incense, and spices there. I need to visit soon to see if they have shaving products.

I'm in Winston and I don't know of any here. Keep us posted as to what you find.

I'm in Greensboro, and I have a list of the various stores here. Most of them seem to be Vietnamese (based on the names), but I have no idea if that will make much of a difference as far as finding anything. I plan to stop by a couple of stores after work tomorrow. The rest I will have to wait until I head to that side of town.

Let us know if they have anything.

***Edit: I stopped by one Asian American Market today, and only found glass bottle Aqua Velva for $4.19 per bottle. Not the large one, either. I may try one of the other places tomorrow.

I am going on a NeverQuest tomorrow! SWMBO can stay at home or she can tag along, but I will find the Grail! I have a list of 9 Asian stores I am going to tomorrow. One of them has to have something. I will post and let you know what, if anything, I find.

I'm in Clemmons and have not found anything in over 3 years of checking the ethnic stores in East Winston and High Point.

Gentlemen, my quest for the holy grail has ended in failure. I didn't find a supply of Golden Florida Water, not sure the difference from other FWs, for $2.29 per bottle, but other than that, nothing. And I don't like FW. Oh well, to the interwebs!

You can try Super G Mart in Greensboro. Address is 4927 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC‎ and their phone is (336) 252-1055. Not sure how extensive their shaving supply may be as, honestly, I've never thought of looking there but they have every kind of Asian/Indian/Hispanic food product and spice you can imagine.

I wish you a good luck in finding anything from a Charlotte native here! I've been watching this thread to see if anything comes of it. We have a few stores here, but not much at all =(

I went there Saturday...the place is amazing! But, the only thing I could find there was Golden Florida Water...nothing else. I went to a lot of different places, and as far as food stuffs go, Super G has the largest and best selection.

Greensboro is a bust. Others say they haven't found anything in High Point or Winston...and I don't know about Burlington (if you consider it part of the Triad). Sounds like Raleigh/Durham areas are the best chances for anything.

Anyhow, I gave up and put in an order at Shaveabuck.com

I was inspired by your quest, and went out to find stuff local to me. As it turns out, the indian market a mile down the road carries Godrej in the lime, rich, and menthol varieties for a song.

If you're having an impossible time finding it and you absolutely must try the Godrej, I'll pick some up and ship them at cost for you guys. The market just got a new shipment in, and there's probably 8 to 10 of each variety there. I did relieve them of their last pack of Wilkinson Sword blades, though.

Just out of curiosity..where is this?

I did order some from Shaveabuck. I got the Arko stick, Arko Cream (Mist and Commando) and Godrej Menthol Mist.

I live in Kernersville, and I have searched Kernersville, Oak Ridge, and parts of High point and Winston Salem, to no avail.. Unfortunately, I think we live in a bad area to satisfy our aquisition disorders

I live in California, in the SF bay area, south bay. There's a high concentration of immigrant communities here, and east indians are among the most populous. Makes for good eating and apparently easy access to certain shaving supplies at rock-bottom prices. Now if only I could convince them to carry the tubes of Old Spice as well...

You can find razors and mugs if you have enough patience going from antique mall to antique mall, but other than that, yeah, we're screwed. I hear soaps and creams are a little easier to come by in Raleigh/Durham. And there is a barber supply company out of Fayetteville (IIRC) that sells some stuff, and you can order from them online.

Well, that explains why you can find stuff! :thumbup1:

Does anyone in the Triad know of a good barber that does a good straight shave. The only one I have found so far is the Board Room in Winston Salem. But they use AOS products, and I am not a big fan of AOS. Also, they use disposable straight blades. I do not know what the laws are in NC, so that might be the norm.

You guys should check the Triangle thread. You can get everything from high end creams and soaps like Castle Forbes and T&H, etc. (Opulence of Southern Pines in Cary, O'Neill's in Chapel Hill) to Florida Water and every conceivable Pinaud (different Beauty Supply places--check the threads) to razor blades, Godrej and alum blocks (Around the World Market).

Yeah, I was telling Wignut yesterfay that I am going to have to make my way over there sometime. :thumbup1:
