Nat Geo Secrets of Shaving vids

That's fascinating. I suppose it's part of a television program? I'd like to watch the whole program. I'll have to check our listings to see if it is coming on.

Many thanks to sas71 for posting that, that was fascinating. :thumbup1:

Watching some of that shaving with the cartridges made me wince with how much pressure they are using. I wonder though if the razors are designed with that in mind, and using very little or no pressure causes them to perform poorly.

Highly recommended watching for anyone that shaves. Some great info in there...amazing how much research and money goes into just the design of a razor handle.

There has to be a way to use all of this modern technology with the simplicity and efficacy of a single very sharp blade. Gillette or Schick would be smart to release a "retro razor" that incorporates all of the advances in shaving technology but embraces an old style razor.

I wish I had the money to make one.

Ripped them to avi and watched them on the tv with my feet up and it was great! Thanks for the link. Lots of interesting stuff.

best,

I don't see it. P&G and Energizer Holdings have a lot of money, time and effort tied up in the quest to convince everyone that four or five blades is better.

When the electric razor started displace wet shaving, Gillette had to do something, and that something was the Trac II. The fact that shaving with blade or blades has gained that market share back is a tribute to the cartridge multiblade razor. For most averages shavers trying to get a decent shave, they work well, with little thought or effort.

If you really must have a single blade because the multiblade lift & cut system disagrees with your skin and beard, Bic makes the Classic 1 Sensitive and Regular, a fusion (ahem) of single blade tech and modern razor design.

We eccentrics with our vintage razors, straights and the modern versions of the aforementioned museum items are embracing art, aesthetics and philosophy as much as anything else. I'll be damned if I'll trade my Red Tip for a multiblade or even a Bic Classic, but I really can't justify it other than a simple "I like it better".

Thanks for the video links, that was quite enjoyable.
