What's new

narrow ties?

I looked a lot through this subforum, but I didn't see what I was looking for. I'm short and skinny, so I'm looking for a narrower necktie. Where is a respectable place to get them, either online or in a store?

A number of places are offering narrower ties. Even stodgy old Jos A. Bank. They usually have something associated with their "slim fit" or "tailored fit" line. I just buy from where ever the sale is personally. Spending 70-80 on a tie is ridiculous. I see this Tie Bar place is pretty inexpensive though.

My favorite in my stable right now is from Charles Tyrwhitt, and was free with a shirt that was also on sale. According to the website, it is 8.5 cm....or 3.35 inches. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe "standard" is 3.5 inches. So slightly less wide than usual.

I will also add that I am pretty "conservative" in my dress due to the environment I dress for at the office, so I'm not exactly cutting edge when it comes to ties.

OP, what's your budget? eBay is always a good source. For B&M, if you're in the US, go check out TJ Maxx and Marshalls - lots of choices and great prices

imo, the standard size is between 3 and 3.25", but I could be wrong

The Tie Bar rocks. $15 per tie, a large selection of skinny ones. Quality is great across the board.

Thrift store. I've found some cool early 60's Madmen style ties for a couple of bucks each.

Regular = 9 cm (3,55 inches)
Narrow = 8.5 cm (3,35 inches)
Wide = 9.5 cm (3,75)

Less than 3,35" and more than 3,75" is vulgar.

Excuse my frankness.

"Vulgar"? Seriously?

What exactly is wrong with a 2.5 inch tie? I got all sorts of compliments on mine when I attended a wedding last weekend. Most of mine are 3" skinny ones and they look fantastic; ditto for the 2.5" knits.

Daniel Craig rocks a skinny tie. If it's good enough for James Bond....

I normally order 9cm ties from Drake's and Sam Hober and find the size to be a happy medium between narrow and regular. Of course, the skinnier the tie, the skinnier your jacket lapel must be.

Thanks for all replies. I bought a couple ties and a tie bar from the Tie Bar. I can't wait to get it in in a few days.

I wear skinny ties because I have suits with narrow lapels and it makes more sense that way. What's vulgar to one doesn't mean vulgar to all. If you want to wear skinny ties, go for it. I get nothing but compliments for them

+1 for Sam Hober. +1 for thetiebar. Sam Hober > thetiebar. Just don't get them too skinny. I would suggest 2.75-3". That way it is trendy. But you can still wear them where ever you want business or fashion. Plus thing are getting wider again (suit lapels and ties). 3" you will be near timeless.

I got my order from The Tie Bar yesterday and the ties and pocket squares are amazing. I can't wait to wear them soon. I need more suits.
