Mystic Waters Lime, a newbie review

I ordered a cake of Mystic Waters Lime to try out, based upon some nice recommendations here. I ordered last Friday, had an email from Michelle over the weekend to confirm my order had shipped, and had the package on Monday, that was a plus right there! The soap has a pleasant, lime scent, which is strong, but not overpowering. All the Col Conk hard soaps I've tried go "scentless" almost after first use, so I'm anxious to see if something more natural holds up. The soap is soft, at first I was thinking because of the hot mailbox, but it has remained fairly soft, which made it easy to mold into my mug. I use a big old flare-lipped style coffee mug straight off the Walmart shelf. The soap lathered nicely on my face with a little warm water. I just watched a YouTube video from "Bruce" showing him lathering up this soap and Wow! I may have to try that! I was a little reluctant to go "natural" as the word "oil" scares a sensitive skinned fellow like myself (fear of zits, at age 35...awesome, I know)... I've only shaved once with this soap, but so far I like it. I could smell the pleasant fragrance whilst applying the lather, and that was refreshing. It felt really creamy & allowed for a smooth shave, dare I say with fewer passes... I look forward to using more, and maybe going "full lather" like I saw on the video. I like supporting small business, and I always appreciate good customer service, thanks, Michelle!

More swirls, more product, and take your time lathering on your face! Then, boom, explosion of scent and lather.

Agreed! I think you definitely are doing a lot of things that I support, such as supporting small business, using the advice of the gentlemen here on B&B, etc. Check out my thread "http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/344248-A-Mystic-Water-Apology" for my take and even some suggestions on making the most of this soap!

I think that Bruce may well be our own brucered.
I got the Lime in a sampler, it was almost too strong for me but smelled wonderful. It was a toss up between that and the Bay Rum, and the Bay Rum won.

MW is some good stuff. A bit finicky when trying to dial it in. But once you have it dialed in you're in for some great shaves. You should also try out Mike's Natural soaps.

MW is great stuff! I used Lilac this morning myself in honor of it turning May. There is a narrow sweet spot with lathering the soap, but when you hit it, magic happens! Keep doing some test lathers and you will experience it yourself. Keep us posted on the progress.

I really hate Michelle's samplers. ;)

All I can say is don't fall for the "buy six samples and pay the same shipping" deal, since you'll be in the situation of having far too many choices to be able to decide on what you want. My favorite of the six always seems to be whatever I last used. Great soap and no problems for me about irritation or sensitivity, as I had with many commercial soaps, shampoos, shaving products, and the like.

As a newb, it took me a while to figure out how to lather (in general), but I'm very happy with the product and the service behind it.

Seriously though, the buy-six plan is a super deal gets you plenty of great soap to be able to shave for quite a while; hopefully long enough to be able to at least narrow it down to two or three for full pucks...

I watched that lather video again. Does everyone lather like that? Seemed brutal! I will try a bowl lather tonight.

I load for about 45sec or so on average with my MW soaps, but I'm not mashing my brush and not timing it when I do it. I don't count swirls, I don't set a timer. People are free to lather however they please, use as little or much as they want. I load my brush until it looks ready to use, then face lather and MW is always as thick and slick as can be. I can get about 40 - 3 pass shaves out of puck and that's with a 4th layer of soap on my face during clean up as well and no going back to the puck between passes.

Don't resort to specifics, time limits, swirls etc. Load it until it's ready to use, then use it.

I load longer then necessary, but can't remember the last time my Lather was the cause of a bad shave. When was the last time you saw me posting a "How do I lather (insert product here)?" :001_cool:

It's shave soap, not gold bullion. What are people saving it for, use it up for goodness sake and then buy some more.

All I can see in that photo is the eye, nose, and puckered mouth of dat-da-de-dah, Latherman! with one lost wave of hair over the other eye, his fingers pointing out from under his billowy, white cape...

"I heard about a man to whom I may be related. He's Latherman.
Died a long time ago in the 1880's. Latherman. Latherman.
Covered with lather but it wasn't right. Underneath a light in his den at night.
Making his lather ten times a day. Once a month they'd spot him and here's what they'd say.

Here he comes. He's a man of the land. He's Latherman.
Smile on his face. Brush in his hand.
He's Latherman. Latherman. Latherman."

Indeed, use it like you can replace it anytime you want. You can! I personally like it when I can use up product a bit faster. I get to try more and different items. I just finished off a cake of Wild Lavender. Look for a review soon. Next up; Viola di Bosco.

Cheers, Todd
