Mystery Hone

I just got this on ebay. It's very hard like marble and smooth like glass. It was in a lot of vintage knife sharpening gear (Knife steel, paddle hone and a carborundum)

Any ideas??

Hard to tell from the picture, but if you can shine a light through it, it may be a translucent arkansas hone. Check in the dark with a small flashlight and see if you can see something like this, especially on the creamy gray parts.

Thanks!
I'll give that a try.

Light will shine right though everywhere just like the posted example but the the white part won't pass light. It must be an Arkansas translucent. Now to figure out the best way to use this.

Thanks for the help.

Was marble ever used as a hone?
The gray part does look like translucent Arkansas stone, the rest not so much.

This came in a knife sharpening lot off Ebay so I'm guessing it was used by somebody for honing.

The white part of the hone looks like the material in a hone that I have been trying to identify,it is hard and dense and looks like marble. All I know is that it`s a natural stone from England ,I`ve seen nothing like it anywhere and is the best finishing hone I have for straights.
Kind regards Peter
