What's new

My second shave brush..?

Hi guys.

It's almost my birthday and since I have enough shave cream, blades, and vintage gillettes to choke an army mule, I figured the most logical thing to ask for would be a new shaving brush.

My first, (and so far only), brush is an Omega pure badger I got at amazon.com for about 30 bucks.

I'm obviously hoping to upgrade, but I'm also hoping not to break the bank. I was thinking the 80-90 dollar range might be appropriate.

I normally use creams, although I also use soaps occasionally. I also build my lather in a mug when I'm using the creams, and really only face lather with my soaps. (I should also say that the idea of a "floppy" brush kinda gives me the willies.)

I think I would prefer to stick with the fairly well known name brands, Simpson, Rooney, Shavemac, etc.

Thanks for your help!

I would suggest Simpson's Colonel X2L in Best. Just got mine and so far working great with creams and soap. No flop/splay whatsoever; soft and plush; great handle. Within your price range.

Don't overlook the Vulfix brushes. They're an outstanding brush that won't break the bank. I have 3 of them, and find myself reaching for one of them a good many times.

Take a look at the pictures of them here. www.classicshaving.com The pictures and descriptions are good here, and the prices are very good, but check around other sites to see if you can do better.

Not one of the "names" but I would strongly recommend a penworks finest alot of bang for the buck and not floppy...and I have some of the "names" also. I also agree with the Semogue recommendation if your open to boar.:thumbup1:

I'd stretch the budget slightly to $115 (IIRC) for a Simpson Ehsan over at Bullgoose. Maybe take a few rarely watched DVDs or unused game cartirdges to a place that buys used ones. An extra $20-$30 shouldn't be hard to find.

You can get two great brushes for that budget. Grab an inexpensive boar from Omega or Semogue, and a Truefitt & Hill (made by Rooney) Silvertip Style 1 with coupon code BB10 for 20% off.

The T&H 1/small is $63 with that code. You can throw a rock and hit a half dozen highly recommended boars for $20 or less. Win.

Look at the Vintage Scents Semogue brushes. Dollar for dollar the best on the market. Plus, they are getting ready to a 20% off sale. Please do not get hooked in to one of the high dollar badgers. They do no better than a very reasonable priced Semogue 1305 or 2000. These guys are great...just do your homework and check the various shave forums.

Rat farts!!! I just ordered my first brush at full price last week. I wish I had known about this. Oh well, it's still an affordable brush. I can't wait to get it and get rid of my canned crap.
