my new gun safe

proxy.php
I think I may have mentioned back during Thanksgiving of '11 that I was offered a free gun safe. I didn't really act on it at the time because winter had already set it and it didn't seem like a good time to transport it. I also didn't feel comfortable accepting such a generous gift, well, because i've never had anything like this just given to me. Anyway, last week while I was at my wife's cousin's b-day party I was again reminded that I needed to come pick up the safe. I gave in and said ok. I friend helped me get the safe today and boy was it heavy. We used an appliance dolly and moved it up a flight of stairs from the basement. It's by a company called American Security Products and it looks like it can hold at least 16 long guns, so I have more than enough room to accomodate my 1 rifle. It also comes with a dehumidifier rod which is an added bonus. It basically looks like the one in the picture above except it's grey. Does anyone have an opinion on this particular brand of safe?Needless to say, i'm grateful that it was given to me and i'll definitely take good care of it. I offered to take my donor and his wife out to dinner to which he obliged.

AmSec is a decent quality safe. They have alot of different price points and generally the only things that change are the Fire Rating(length of burn time before failure) and the overall fit and finish. You'll be fine with that and it sounds like you have some room to grow into it.

Not sure of the maker, but its a nice looking safe, and you sure can't beat the price.

I'd sure like to find someone looking to get rid of one in my area for sure.

i'm guessing mine has a decent fire rating because of how heavy it is. it must used reinforced steel plating or something

btw, have any of you ever made your own custom interior shelving? I don't like the shelf it came with and want to make my own. anyone have any tips?
