As I have read many of the posts on B&B, I have found a lot of good comments in reference to the Gem 1912s. I had dumped my old cartridge for a nice Gillette birth year DE a while back. Over time I have gone from pink shaving soap to white (my skill has improved LOL). I guessed it was about time that I took the next step and picked up a 1912. I found one in a local store for a whopping 99 cents. The plaiting was missing and the brass was showing but I popped in a new CVS blade (cost more than the razor) and went to town. Wow what a great shave, no pink shaving soap, and the sound feedback from the razor was the best that I have ever gotten. I had a very low learning curve. The shave was outstanding! This razor has now moved up to a front runner in my rotation.
New and fancy does not always equal the best. I would put this 1912 Gem up against anyones modern blue goo using 5 bladed thing. Bottom-line, if you have not tried a Gem I would. As the name implies, they are Gems
