What's new

My new bike

I am brand new to triathlons, but have 1 booked for later this summer, and hope to have 2/3 done by the end of the season (working on my swimming, argh). Anyways, here is my new (to me) Cervelo P1 road/triathlon bike. I pick it up tomorrow and cant wait. I have very little road bike experience, but cant wait to get out on the road and off the trainer at the gym. I will have to pick up some shoes, and will be booked in to have it fitted properly in the next couple weeks.

Any info/tips/comments are welcome :001_smile

Looks like a sweet ride! I just went mountain biking today (my preference) and have my eye on a new bike as well. Happy riding!

Thanks. I like mountain biking too, but with a 2 year old at home, this is going to be much easier to hop on and get some exercise with. Post a pic if (when) you get a new bike!

You will need a rack and a basket on it. Bringing groceries home on your back is a PITA. :001_tongu

I love biking with my sons, but I go for the considerably tamer rails to trails. There are great ones around Pittsburgh. I rode a Trek Calypso for years, but found an Electra Amsterdam on Craigslist last year and it is now the object of my affection. Most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. So comfortable that I'm taking it to the Cumberland Trail for our big ride home this summer.

Enjoy your new bike. :001_smile

It's true! However I thought buying a used bike makes more sense, that way if I dont like it I can sell and it and not lose my shirt. I plan on finding a used trainer so I can use it in the winter as well.

Kurt makes some great trainers. I bought one from a friend and love it. Your Cervelo is nice. Practice ride in your aero position as it takes some getting used to. Triathlon is a great sport! Have fun. And if you think shaving can get expensive, try triathlon related ADs.

I paid $850 including a Garmin GPS (which doesnt have cadence, so I may upgrade), shoes and cleats. I have been able to get out for a couple rides, and the bike rides great and is in great shape. I am going to get it fitted properly sometime this week, but so far so good. The only part of me that was sore was my neck which I am hoping the fitting will help with. Maybe that just takes some getting used to? Surprisingly my butt wasnt sore which I was expecting.

Nice bike Alex, I like the trunk :)

Aero position takes getting used to. It's not really natural. Your upswept aero bars are pretty good for your wrists I bet. Post your bike split after your first race!
