What's new

My knife obsession grows

(beware... i have no clue how to get pictures to work properly... sorry)

Ok guys... i posted before to show you a little of what i currently have, but heres one that's now on the way. For the fun of it, i'm going to include the design that i sent to the maker so you can see where it all started.

So here it is... my new paring/utility knife:

Clearly i like lots of pictures... I hope you guys enjoy it. Who knows, maybe i can shave with this thing. It's hand forged 52100 (hrc 62), so it should have a fine enough grain structure to give a good shave :tongue_sm

working on getting it into my hands as we speak... sadly its still at the maker for the time being

JBroida,

I'm interested in your choice of materials and their placement. Why use Ti spacers? What kind of Ti is it? Same questions for the carbon fiber.
Is it just aesthetics?

the wood is amboyna, and thats just because i like it. I chose the ti spacers for a couple of reasons. First, i wanted to add a little girth to the handle without adding a lot of weight. Second, i had the ti mirror polished so it would contrast with the matte finish on the 52100. There is a small black spacer between the ti and 52100 to prevent a galvanic reaction. The carbon fiber is just for looks. Oh... and the mosaic pins just look nice :biggrin1:

The only material i really really care about is the 52100. I chose that as my steel for a number of reasons. First, super fine grain structure. That means i can get it super sharp. Second, good edge stability. Third, ability to harden to the range i wanted (62 hrc or thereabouts). Fourth, i wanted something not stainless, just for fun. And 5th, after seeing all the hype about Bill Burke, Bob Kramers, and a few other makers 52100 knives, i wanted to try one out for myself.
