What's new

My Friday night looks like this

Number 5,298 on the list of things that SOUND dirty but aren't:

I'm really going to be "honing my razor" Friday night.

We are DEEPLY twisted around here, you know that?

(Heading out to go camping with my daughter in Portola Redwoods State Park.)

That's gonna be me tomorrow morning!! My wife works early on saturdays & I have the day off, so I get most of my honing done on Saturday mornings....Looks like fun!!:thumbup1:

I might also be enjoying that activity this evening, mine however might have to involve some scotch. That's a wonderful way to spend a Friday night!

God I wish I was having the same Friday night. Me and SWMBO just got our new furniture delivered and it's been a nightmare arranging it and finding places for things. I just want to hone and make scales, my wood came. I'm jealous!!

It was a terrific evening that bled over into Saturday afternoon and the Sunday evening. I left the rocks and plates and other honing accoutrements in the living room and over the course of the weekend managed to successfully hone 4 out of 6 blades. One of the two that remained unhoned come to me in a lot of French razors and has very nice horn scales. The blade, however, unstamped with any maker's mark, turned out to be lousy steel incapable of taking a shave. The other one is quite good steel, but a full wedge that forced me to submit before I could force it. I'll be revisiting it soon enough.

One of the highlights is that I finally put a decent edge on a frameback. For some reason they'd been confounding me, but I finally broke through the wall with one. Don't know why or even if I'll ever replicate the success.

Framebacks are difficult. I have a magnificent Leresche waiting to be used, but when I try honing it, it has such a large smile, I don't even know how to approach it.
So so far, of the 1/2 dozen framebacks I have, I only managed to shave with a LeGrelot (that came shave-ready).
