My First Vintage Razor and a Question About TTOs

I just picked up my first vintage razor and it is a beauty. A Gillette 1975 Black Super Speed picked up on eBay.

I am real eager to test this baby out but it is my first go around with a TTO razor and a few things seem perplexing. First, I was wondering if you shave with the door all the way closed since very little of the blade is exposed in this position.

Also, is seems that my TTO has a very flat blade angle i.e. the head bends the razor only a little and it seems, given I have not tried the razor yet, that I would have to use an angle much further away from parallel to the floor to cut with this particular blade.

Very Nice razor !! Yes , shave with doors all the way closed. To find angle , hole razor parallel to the floor , gradually bringing the handle down. You will know when the angle is right. I have to adjust my angles when using either my Merkur and then going to one of my superspeeds. The angle of the blade is a little different. Happy Shaving !!

First, make sure it is completely closed, very bad things will happen if it is not closed.
Second, yes, the angle is around 30 degrees.
Check out a couple shaving videos on YouTube.

That is a great razor to master your skills on! Many on this forum proclaim the virtues of the Super Speed razors!

Once again I'm glad to see one of my "babies" in the hands of a fellow B&B member! I hope you enjoy and that it serves you well. Let me know if you ever have a problem with it.

I have to say +1 to alex2363's advice . . . the Mantic videos are a "must see" for wetshaving instruction.

Welcome to B&B! :thumbup1:

I had a hunch the razor belonged to a fellow B&B member. Don't worry Brad I will take the best care of your razor as I possibly can and thank you for being willing to relinquish it to a newbie such as myself.
