My first soap PGS Whiskey - mini mini review

Hello guys

I had my first shave with a soap today. I used Portland General Store Whiskey on my 5 days beard and I only needed one (ONE!!) pass with my Feather DX geared with Feather Pro Blade. Unbeliavable.

The soap is said to be hard to lather, so I was a bit skeptical, since it was my first try with a soap. But I just needed some swirls in the container then I moved on to the mug. Lather exploded! I think Ill have to dump all my creams and start using soaps. :001_wub: I am not good describing scents, but to me it definately smelled alcohol/whiskey (Not the best I have smelled in a soap/cream) But performance is speaking for itself. I will keep this. But now I have two questions for you guys:

1. Have you tried this soap?
2. Is soaps really that great? I mean compared to my best performing creams (Musgo, Trumpers Coconut) This was in league of its own. I cant even imagine how Mitchells Wool Fat, Mama Bear and Mikes Natural soaps will performing.

FYI: Ingrediens list -
Castor oil, coconut oil, olive and palm oils, glycerin, cocoa butter, beeswax (yellow), apple cider vinegar, bentonite clay.

I've been wondering about the PGS soaps. Thanks for the recommendation. I switch up between creams and soaps but as far as soaps go I've had great luck with Calani soaps, and Tabac, I also have had pretty good luck with Williams.

Got a picture of the lather? That's an unusual ingredient list provided it's in the correct order. It would create a massive quantity of lather for sure, but it would be extremely airy.

I found another soap of theirs that lists Bentonite clay before lye on the ingredients. I'm guessing they must just not list their ingredients in order.

I got this off of the never ending pif from michiganlover (i think). It was the old formula that had goats milk in it and I was hoping for the new veggie only formula that you got. I did hand lather it, and it seems that it would have given great protection. The biggest thing to me was the scent. Yes, it is straight up whiskey. Not a hint, not infused, but a damn shot of Jack. The wife didn't like the smell, but I did.

They have lots of good looking products. I would like to try more.

Just wanted to mention, this soap underwent a reformulation. It didn't contain Olive Oil originally.

Most of the previous threads, and reviews would have been for the prior formulation, so they would now being meaningless, as they are two entirely different soaps.

Here is the original ingredients:

"Coconut Oil, *Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerine (kosher, of vegetable origin), Bentonite Clay, Sodium Hydroxide, Sorbitol, Sorbitan Oleate, Sodium Stearate, Soy Bean Protein, Sucrose, Propylene Glycol, Wheat Protein, DMDM Hydantoin, Raw Beeswax, Goats Milk, Purified Water, Essential Oils, Natural Mica"

It looks like the original formulation was based upon the Brambleberry Shaving Soap Base, which has the following ingredients:

Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerin (kosher, of vegetable origin), Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent), Sorbitol (moisturizer), Sorbitan oleate (emulsifier), Soy bean protein (conditioner), Wheat Protein (conditioner)

Ive been interested in their products for a long time now. The racer cream sounds nice but the price is pretty high, their colognes interest me but also too much $$$ on my budget

Their colognes are outside of the budget for just about everyone. At $68 for a mere 15ml, they are some of the most expensive colognes on the market.

A 100ml (3.4oz) bottle would cost $453, a 120ml (4oz) bottle of Creed Green Irish Tweed (purchased from Walgreens) would cost $139.30.

Their colognes are a huge rip off, no matter how you slice it.

I Used this today as well, but since I received my Simpson Commodore X3 today I had to let this bad boy give it a try. But compared to last evening, using my Muhle Classic Style, Silvertip Badger size 2 (or whatever the vendor called it) I didnt quite get the lather today, as I were talking about yesterday. But please, let the Commodore and the Whiskey fight some more nights, until the Commodore is balanced, and I will show you guys.

Thanks for the recommendation, I will try them in the future. But for now I think I actually have to try to finish some of my creams and soaps, hehe.

Its a really nice soap, and I have even bought PGS Wood Super Thick Hand Cream - Alpine Shave Jelly with Pine - Hunting Camp deep exfoliating Soap - Tobacco Smelling salts. If it wasnt for the Norwegian Vendor were out of their Aftershaves I would have bought them too.

Been curious about this one. thanks for the review
Happy to contribute. Are you going to try it? :shifty:

Too bad the Norwegian vendor doesn't carry their cream, or else I would have added that one as well. But I will look out for it. Their colognes are just plain ridiculous, regarding price off course.

Should we cry ourselves to sleep or give it a good laugh? I totally agree BTW.
