What's new

My first SE shave (in about 4 years)

Well I bought a Ever Ready about 4 years ago, when I first started wet shaving. I bought some blades for it (I don't remember the name) and tried to shave. I was very new at wet shaving and the SE shave was horrible, I was very disappointed. I had lots of stubble and a dozen or more bloody spots on my neck and checks. So here's what happened. I ordered a Merkur HD, and put the Ever Ready away, that was 2006. I recently decided to give SE shaving another shot, since I figured I could do a little better this time. I got in on the SE blade group buy, however, I was too inpatient to wait on them so I went and bought a 5 pack of the blued steel Pal blades at my local grocery store. I got out the old Ever Ready that had been in a box since '06, loaded it up with the blue Pal and started the shave. I wasn't expecting a lot, but what happened was amazing. I guess it was the combo of me improving my technique with prep, and lathering, as well as using better creams/soaps. But whatever it was I had one of my best shaves EVER!:w00t: I was BBS in one pass. I did my usual second pass, and was stunned. Now I can't wait for my blades from the group buy. I also bought a Gem 1912from the bay, it's on the way to me. I think I may be a SE man from now on. The whole experience was different than a DE. I enjoyed it more. Man I hope ASR doesn't go under just as I have fell in love:001_tt1: with SE shaving.

Great story! I think a lot of fellows have a similar bad first experience with an SE and give up on them, which is a shame. They really do give outstanding shaves when the operator does his part, and the proper blade is used.

SEs are really wonderful shavers, and give an extremely close, yet comfortable shave, if you pay attention. It has taken me a few times, but I am really loving me SEs.

I won a variety asst of razors on ebay, several Gillettes, two Schick injectors
two straight razors, and a boxed Gem Junior. Just learning proper technique with the Gillettes, am tempted to try the Gem. Without going in for the group buy, where can you get a small qty of blades?

These blades are excellent. In the U.S. they're available at Walgreens drug stores. Maybe some Canadian chain would also carry them.

Shoebox Shave has a variety, but I don't know what their shipping to Canada would be.
