My First Fountain!

There's a Lamy Safari Medium on Ebay right now I'm looking at. Is this a good idea for my first Fountain? It's gonna be around $25 shipped so I'm not too worried if its a dud. Thanks for any info!

A lot of people started with the Safari (think gateway), it's highly regarded here and is a durable pen. Go for it.

The first FP I purchased was a Lamy Safari and I love it! It writes very well and, if you buy the converter, opens up the path to the wonderful world of inks!

Congrats & welcome to the Nib! I didn't go the Lamy route, but I know MANY have - it's a safe bet and you can change out nibs down the road if you decide to. Did it come with the Z24 converter? I'd recommend it, since you probably don't want to be limited to cartridges.

I'm using my vista right now - fine nib and Aurora black and it writes like butter. The converter is a must! You might have to go through a few nibs until you find a really smooth one - they're a bit inconsistent. I have a safari as well with a fine nib but its a little scratchy.

I still really like using my Lamy Safari! I think it is a great starter pen. You should definitely pick up a converter if it does not come with one.
Let us know what you think about it when you get it.

I posted in the BST about trading some GEM's for a fountain, and someone is going to PIF me a Serwex. He admitted it was a cheapo, but I am happy! I'll get to try one out for free. I'm sure I'll get some FPAD after it arrives though...

I got moves like Jagger
Still buy the Safari, pick your normal everyday nib (F or M) as well as an italic to have fun with! Nib swaps on a Lamy are SUPER easy!

Here is the man!! ^^^^^^^ Big thanks to rockviper for hooking me up! I'll probably buy the Lamy fairly soon as well. I'll be sure to put up some pics and thoughts!!!

I have a desk job now, so I just HAVE to get a good pen right!?

Yep. Pilot Metropolitan. It looks a lot nicer than the Lamy (imo), costs less, and writes just as well, if not better. It also comes with a converter. Pen and a bottle of ink for about $25 plus shipping. If you love the look of the Safari, though, go for that one. I'm just a huge Pilot fan and don't really care for Lamy.

I have too many plain black pens, so I forced myself to get the gold Metro, didn't think I would like it at first, but the gold has really grown on me.

Metros are exceedingly difficult to find currently. Unless you're enamored with the champagne/gold look.
