I like my 10066, but I agree with the OP, not particularly scrubby. My 66 has soften up rather nicely and that is the preferred characteristic I like in boars. On th other hand I have found my two Zenith boars to provide more of a scrub.
You sure about that number? I'd like to get one like yours (looks like Eveready) with the two-tone. Nice!
Of course, I was wrong. This is a Burma brush. You sure about that number? I'd like to get one like yours (looks like Eveready) with the two-tone. Nice!
I was looking at the 10108 but I don't want that.
After posting here I went back to my 11126, which I had set aside for about a year. For the sake of accuracy, I have to retract my statement that the 11126 does not have a great deal of backbone. It has much more backbone than my memory attributed to it. The handle is beautiful, but not extremely comfortable in my hands. For that reason, I don't use it very often.I did not mean to imply that every Omega has more back bone than every Semogue, but on average Omega boars have more backbone than Semogue boars. My Omega 11126, however, definitely does not have a great deal of backbone. The C5 Torga looks like a densely packed brush and I can believe that it has a good deal of scrub.
The thing about the Semogues is that they bloom out more than the Omegas and they lose a great deal of backbone after full break in. My SOC boar has about the same amount of backbone as my SOC two band, far less than my Omega 49.
I don’t mind less backbone and love the SOC’s craftsmanship and the general feel of the Semogues.
I just got a 10065 and it’s nothing but a shedder at this point. Probably lost two dozen or so hairs in the first 3 saves. It’s on the soft/floppy side too. I definitely like the larger Omega’s better.Well..... my Omega 10066 brush came in yesterday. I used it and to me it didn't hold on to water to long. Although it lather up ok, it's not what I was hoping for. I can use one of my hair brushes to get whiskers to come out more. I was expecting something more scrubby. I'm disappointed.
I own that boar brush, 15 total. I use this trick. Whether its legit or all in my head, I still do it for every boar brush. I put the boar brush in a glass of water and place it in the fridge for 24 hours then take out the brush shake out all the water. Then take a clean towel and rub the brush back and forth into the towel for 10 minutes. Let the brush dry out. Start using it. ALL my boar brush work great.Well..... my Omega 10066 brush came in yesterday. I used it and to me it didn't hold on to water to long. Although it lather up ok, it's not what I was hoping for. The Omega 10005 was my first brush. It would have been my only brush had I not found this forum!Just one use, mind you. It's a boar. Give it a month or two and it'll just be breaking in.
I've been using the same Omega 10005 for the last three years now, every single shave and it's a great brush.
Soak it about five minutes first. Then just use it. If ever you're thinking it's not working, try using a synthetic brush one day. That'll show the difference.
Although the Omega has pretty stiff bristles when dry, if you're looking for a stiffer brush have a go with the Semogue Owner's Club boar. I've got one of those, too -- thinking I'd need a spare.Maybe when I'm 90 I'll be pulling it out when the Omega finally dies. (I am old but 90 is still 27 years away...)
