My First Boar Brush.Question

Hello Gents,

First off, I hope everyone is well. I just received my new B&B boar brush in the mail today. I soaked it in warm water for a few minutes then gave it a quick test run on a puck of DR Harris Windsor. I was quite surprised at how much it digs into the soap. Pretty impressive. I've only used badger brushes until now.

My question...I've heard/read that boar brushes need to dry for up to 48 hours between uses. Is this true? I hope not as I would like to use it daily so I can learn how to use it.

Best Regards,

Jason

Just use a blow dryer if you are concerned - it also helps break it the boars in faster. Just wait until the tips split!

Letting it dry fully will help it break in faster, but a solid 24 hours should get it most of the way dry, especially as it blooms.

Thanks, guys. I was surprised that it didn't smell worse based on the stories I've heard. It did smell a bit like a wet dog who's been running around a sheep farm but nowhere near as bad as I thought it would.

You can use it everyday with no concerns. Like was said above, just wait 'til it breaks in! When those tips split, they get much softer and more comfortable. It'll never lather as well as a good badger but a good badger will never be as soft.

I've been using a Duke 3 in best and a custom Rudy Vey 2 band. They both work well with soaps (I face lather and never use cream) but I kept reading that boars really soar with soaps. I'm looking forward to using it.

Ok. I'm satisfied that I can use it daily. I may order another one if I like it and alternate them daily. They aren't exactly expensive (compared to my badgers). I'm excited to try it tomorrow. The only decision is soft soap or triple milled...

Thanks again, gentlemen.

I bought a couple boars a while back, and one of them (Semogue 830) is as good as anything I've ever used, period. The other (omega) has been underwhelming but probably still needs to break in.

While I don't get the thick, creamy lather with a boar as I do with a badger, I get lather instantly, its softer, and it has backbone to work my coarse whiskers good!

I love my Semogue 1470. I might get a SOC some day as well to try.

I will say, Badger rule for cream. However, Boar also brought me back to soap ;)

I used the new B&B boar brush for my shave this morning. I was very impressed. It's a different feel on my face than my Duke 3 or my Rudy Vey 2 band badger, but it works well and made a very nice lather. So far so good...
