What's new

My Dad's brush-need opinions!

The pictures below are of my Dad's brush. He gave it to me in 1963 when I was 12, along with a Fatboy, a Schick Injector, an Old Spice shaving mug (which I also still have), and a couple of bottles of AS--Old Spice and Seaforth. He set me on my own devices to begin my shaving career with his old gear, for he had gone exclusively to electrics. Throughout the years, the Fatboy and the Schick got lost in the shuffle, but I did manage to hang on to this brush and the mug for all this time. I thought I had lost it forever a couple of years ago, but my EX-SWMBO had a package of things that she had been holding onto for me, and one of the things was the brush.

My question is simple: I don't need another restore, for I have over 20 now along with several new brushes, but do I restore this brush? I don't have another like it, and it would make a nice restore, and I have a 22mm TGN Super Silvertip that would go nicely. But...isn't it cool that it is all original? My Dad used it, I used it, and it's probably over 75 years old.

What would you do?

Keep it the way it is, lather it up once in a while maybe you will bring a little joy back into it's life. The more original it is the more it reminds you of your father. Store it with your other brushes or give it a place to be displayed. That is just my two cents however.

Leave it the way it is if the knot is in good enough condition. If it were me it would be difficult to change it. Either way, its a sweet brush!!

I'd leave it the way it is, too. I've seen a couple at an antique shop here in Baton Rouge that look similar (same color bristles and bent like yours). I may purchase and try.
