I have cleaned these brushes with my wife's makeup brush shampoo and then I used some good conditioner on them and they all seem to have a decent loft for their age. Most antique mall brushes I buy usually have hardly any hair left. I may try them all a few times and then decide whether I need to re-knot them. The 2 on the left are boar and the 2 on the right are pure badger. The 2 in the middle may get re-knotted.....time will tell. I really hate to remove any vintage original knot if it's at all salvageable. If it has only a few scraggly hairs left.... well that's one thing, but if it has a decent knot still then I like to keep them original, I don't have to use every brush (I keep telling myself).
