What's new

my 1906 surprise

i bought this lot on ebay and opened it up today to find a surprise. i know that there was a single ring and an old type but the seller didnt list the SN. the very first thing i noticed was that the seller threw everthnig in a ziploc bag and put is in a box with peauts....... ugh. luckily everything seemed to be ok. first thing i did was look for the date on the single ring. looked it up and was happy to see where the SN put the razor. this is now my oldest gillette. pretty excited thats for sure. just for kicks i decided to look and see if the old type had a date code and what do ya know it does and its from 1918.

im posting the before pics only for now. the razors are soaking as we speak and will be cleaned and polished tomorrow. i just couldnt wait to post my new toy.

also the single ring appears to have no cracks at all which is pretty rare. i will know for sure after its all cleaned up.

Great surprise sir, I got my old type in a similar fashion. You will find your model 102 to be an excellent razor. I went so far as to order some nos 3 hole blades on eBay and I lucked into a Kanners mechanical stropper in an antique stor, so I can get numerous great shaves on a single blade! I really like my model 102. So much so, that I've added it to my regular rotation. Have a great night sir!

Ah, very nice! Congrats!
But a small tip. Don't use the foil/baking soda method in the kitchen. My wife hated the smell. So did I for that matter. Something about metal boiling.:thumbdown That just seriously stinks.

yea i alread done it in the kitchen and my wife said the same thing but she didnt say i had to do it somewhere else. she just said it stinks. thats really the only place to do it tho. unless i go boil water on the bbq. i could always use that little burner on the side.

What is the SE next to the 1914? Will it accept a se blade?

it looks like it will take a normal se blade buti think u would mess up the blade in the process. imagine it being like an injector. the top doesnt flip up for me to set the blade in. like i mentioned ill post pics of that razor too so u guys can see it better
