MWF and brush health

I have read that lanolin can cake up and damage your shaving brush. I know people here love the MWF, and I am intrigued. But, unlike many, I only have one brush, and I would like to not gunk it up so I can also use creams and other soaps with MWF. Is there any truth to Lanolin harming your brush?

I just finished one puck of MWF with no ill effects on my brush. Just rinse well and clean at least once a year with shampoo, vinegar or Borax.

I think your brush will be fine as long as you completely rinse it out and dry it. No matter the soap.

There have been some previous debates about mentholated soaps and natural badger hair brushes. See the following: Post 1 Post 2 but nothing so far that I can remember that speak to the ills of MWF and the lanolin.

I have just recently become a MWF convert for the winter and I have noticed no ill effects so far on both my everyday BBE and my Dovo travel brushes. As others have suggested, it is of course a good idea to clean your brushes on a regular basis. Either way, you gotta love the lanolin on these colder dry mornings.

There are often threads asking if lanolin or menthol are bad for brushes, but there are never threads saying a brush has just fallen apart from using MWF or Proraso.

Its fine.

I use MWF daily. There have been no deleterious effects on my brushes whatsoever. As Confilo suggests proper maintenance is all it takes to keep your brush in top working order.
