Must have boar brush?

I jumped from my VDH boar into badger brushes. I now have a 22mm Whipped Dog Silvertip, a Simpson X2L, and a Vulfix 660S. Now, I'm thinking I should have a decent boar in my collection. What is a "must have" boar brush?

The Semogue SOC. It's much more than a decent boar, it's the finest currently made IMHO.

Semogue 1470.

You get to see the high points of Semogue quality and design.

The hair is among their best, the handle is sleek and clear finish (superior to their painted handles), the knot shape and size is near perfect in my opinion, and the price is hard to beat $10-15 in the states.

SOC is a great brush (those are the 2 boars I've kept), but taking the price into consideration, I think the 1470 is more of a "must have".

If you can get your hands on it, the 2010 Custom blue brush was a great brush too, but it's second-hand only now.

I consider the following Semogues 'must have':

- Semogue Excelsior Boar Limited Edition 2009 and its cousin, the SOC at 30 USD
- Semogue 610 or 620, at 18 USD
- Semogue 1305, at 18 USD, or the LE 2012 run from Italianbarber at 20 USD.

All stellar brushes at their price point!

edit:
The 1305 LE is undyed and has a different colorscheme:

Semogue and Omega are considered tops in boar brushes. You can't go wrong buying any brush from either of these manufacturers

Brushes are a personal "thang" What works for one person may be awful for someone else.

I've had a number of boar brushes over the years but I keep going back to the Semogue 1305 again and again.

Omega no. 37 is fantastic. By far my favourite boar. I suppose the bristle is similar in whole premium boar line: backbone of a boar and tips with silvertip-like softness. Also worth a mention; it doesn't smell at all.

Connaught shaving has these on clearance sale.

Semogue SOC or 830. I actually prefer the acrylic handle of the 830 to the wood of the SOC even though the SOC style is extremely comfortable to use.

My pick would be the Semogue 1305. I also have an 1800 and an 830, and seem to reach for the 1305 more.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. I've gotten rid of few otherwise fine Omega boars because of cheap looking and feeling handles. No. 37 has nice enough handle.

I haven't used the Omegas I have in my face yet, just judging by handle Semogue > Omega. The 610 I have is a great brush with an excellent handle.

There are some great boar brushes from Semogue and Omega - I have brushes from both makers.

But if you're only getting one, I'd say you might as well get the best - the Semogue SOC. It'll take a bit of breaking-in to soften up and reach its best performance, but it's worth it.

I own the 2000, SOC, 1305, 1250, and the 620. Must have award for me goes to the SOC followed very closely by the 1305. They are both very diffrent brushes but in a class of their own when compared to the rest.

Looking forward to the SOC boar that's coming my way ;) After I was so impressed by the 610, I wanted to try some more boars.

My path was similar to the OP on the WD and Simpson's. I went with the official forum Boar just because it was the official B&B brush. I wonder how it compares with the Semogues recommended on this thread.

Not easy answering that question since you are looking for one brush.

The value of boar brushes makes them ideal to get anyone started on a healthy SBAD path.
So, in my opinion, the "must have" boar brushes are: Semogue SOG, Semogue 1305 and/or 830, Semogue 620, Omega #49 (any colour), Omega 31025 and/or 31064.

Lucky you!
