Musgo

Hey guys,

I picked up a puck of this musgo lime and basil glycerine soap. I thought it was shave soap but I see lots of listings that it's just face soap? Is this the case? What the heck do I have?

The lime only version is referred to as MRGLO often. It seems to be less talked about now, but for a while it was the go-to preshave soap. I'm sure it's still just as great. Stay far away from the MR shaving soap; it's pretty terrible.

I foolishly assumed that because Musgo cream is so good so too must be the soap. I was very wrong. Yes, it is possible to work up an OK lather in the bowl, but it starts disappearing -- rapidly -- as soon as you apply it to your face. In other words, it pulls a Caswell-Massey. I used it four times, then I threw it away. Life is too short for disappearing and ineffective lather.

Yep, like everyone said, MRGLO is a pre shave soap.
I personally don't find the need for a pre product very often, but MRGLO is not bad, although I must say I much prefer the Pre/Dopo by Proraso.

It never ceasses to amaze me how good the cream is, and how bad the soap is.
They just tried to make a product without the background knowledge they had from other shaving products like the Musgo Real stick, which has an absolutely amazing performance.

It's "just plain soap" which is touted as a pre-shave face soap. Some days it seems to make my shaves smoother, others it doesn't. It has a slightly old school scent to it which I find appealing. I wouldn't recommend trying to shave with it, though...

Right. Got it. Since it was sold under "shaving soaps" I did not read the fine print. I really am not sure why one would need to use a pre-shave soap if one is using a good shaving soap.

I use mrglo about half the time before i shave. It's just a simple glycerin soap, but it feels to me like it has a lot of glycerin in it as it is really slippery. Often times I'll lather up with mrglo and then put a hot towel over it and leave it like that for a few minutes and then go shave. That almost always gives me a good result assuming good lather and fresh blade.
