Musgo Real Glycerine Lime Oil Soap: $9 + Free Shipping w/Amazon Prime

Wow--3 bars for $27 shipped, even without prime. Not a bad deal! (Free super saver shipping)

Thanks for the tip!

Does washing your face with this leave oil on it? I'm so confused, I found out I at least at times like Pre-Shave oil, but I am kind of picky on them. The one I'm using now has not so much Peppermint but even that is too much. Shave Secret has too much Menthol for me too, I got some Castor Oil, I'm going to mix my own one of these days...

Washing with Glyce does not leave any residue after rinsing. Sometimes I will wash with this soap on days that I'm not shaving, and it does a fine job. When I use it as a pre-shave, I will leave it on my beard without rinsing and just lather right on top of it.

And yes, Amazon Prime is one of my favorite vendors. That free shipping is terrific when you only need one or two items and don't want to fill up your cart to $80.00 just to get free shipping. And the variety of shaving products they offer is getting to be quite substantial.

Okay, what's the deal with this MRGLO crap and why is it so highly praised? I have a bar of glycerine soap from the supermarket that works just fine for not even $2, but even then I'm not sure it's making a difference in my shave...

This isn't just glycerine soap, and no, plain glycerine soap won't make any difference in your shave. You can read all about it, there is plenty of information about it already posted all over the place. This stuff really does make a noticeable difference in softening the hairs, the blade cuts them much easier, "like a hot knife through butter."

Or like a flipped DE blade through butter!

If it's posted all over the place, mind linking me to some of that information oh wise one? ;) So far all I'm seeing is a glycerine soap with castor oil to soften whiskers (which I already get from a small AoS preshave oil) and some lime scent. Nothing that couldn't be replicated with a cheap glycerine soap bar and some DIY/premixed preshave oil, I assume. Has anyone compared MRGLO to cleansing with a glycerine bar and then slapping on some preshave oil?

I didn't mean any offense when I said that there's plenty of info posted already. I wasn't especially forthcoming with information because you discounted something you hadn't tried based on your experience with an entirely different product. I generally have an unpleasant reaction to people who claim that something isn't that great (or could be easily replaced by something different) when they haven't tried it themselves. You can't say that it could be replicated with X if you've never used it. Textbook experts are no experts at all.

Basically, besides the coconut and lime oil (which I don't think are just for scent, because it doesn't really smell like lime or coconut), it pretty much is just soap with castor oil. You should wash your beard before shaving anyway, and this product softens your beard at the same time (beyond what water does). I know some people like preshave oils, but I don't. They're terrible for your brush, and they clog razors. You don't get any oil residue with MR GLO, so washing and slapping on a pre-shave oil isn't the same at all. I suppose if you washed, then let some castor oil soak in, then washed again you might get similar results (although the oil wouldn't soak into the water-soaked hairs very well), but why not just use a bar of soap that's made to do it all at once? If I had to get oil all over my hands and face, I'd just skip it completely.

Some people (like me) notice a big difference with MR GLO, and some people don't notice any difference at all. It boils down to different beards and different faces, just like every razor, blade, soap, aftershave, etc. For me, the difference between shaving with and without MR GLO is analogous to the difference between shaving after soaking the beard and not soaking the beard (although obviously not as large of a difference).

If you're interested in trying it, if you're buying it along with other things Bullgoose has it for $6.50, otherwise this is a great deal here.

I don't really want to comb through search results (you can do that yourself, and decide what you think is relevant), but here is the review page:

also, there are always a few related threads linked to near the bottom of any given page.

No problem, and I apologize for being snarky in my response -- it was a bit difficult to pull up threads with good info on the soap, but that might've just been me being lazy with the quick search. Your explanation makes a lot more sense though, and I do appreciate having it laid out like that -- generally all I was able to turn up were threads along the lines of "oh it's great I like to rub it on my face" with little explanation of the properties of the soap itself.

I'm still on the fence knowing that this soap can be irritating or not do much for some folks, and I haven't had any ill effects from the pre-shave oil yet, but I'll probably start worrying about that a bit more once I upgrade from my $9 shea moisture brush. I'll keep an eye on it and maybe add it to my wishlist for christmas and try it then. Thanks!

IMHO pre-shaves in general are overrated. I've tried oil before, a pre-post (Proraso) - and I don't see much of a difference.

What does help is either a hot shower (washing and hydrating your face), or whipping up a bit of lather and leaving it on the face for a few minutes prior to shaving in lieu of that. It's also more economical than buying a separate product.

I've done both of both of these, and the MR GLO does a much better job at softening the whiskers for me. Just because it works for me, or doesn't work for you, doesn't mean that others will have the same experience. I could've sworn there was some sort of acronym having something to do with that idea... :wink2:

You mean "IMHO" I think... :001_tt2:

Did you mean: YMMV? ( Your Mileage May Vary)
