Muhle Synthetic

I got my hjm synthetic and used it for the first time yesterday.
I love it: lathers up really well (cella soap), very smooth and soft tips and the handle is surprisingly comfortable, especially when I was working up the lather in the bowl.

It is not very dense but quite sufficient. Had that been my first brush I don't think I'd be out looking for other brushes. One thing for sure: cheap brushes like tweezerman or VDH boar work up lather well but are much better in working up a case of SBAD...

For the price (thirty odd from shaving.ie shipped to my door) it is fantastic. Is it 3X better than the Tweezerman? For sure. I would say that if this one goes for $30 then the Tweezerman should got for $5. IMHO.

... since I am affected ...
If I had to nitpick, the hjm could stand to be a tad denser. Nothing like the super-dense H.I.S brush.

I was wondering if someone had the chance to compare the hjm to brushes from the Fibretip line.

Cheers,
Erez

+1 on the HJM synthetic. Earlier this week I received mine from Connaught (great deal: $25 shipped). Comparing it to my Men-U Premier (which is a re-branded Omega): the Men-U Premier is more dense, the HJM's tips are much softer (but the HJM works well with hard soaps as well as soft soaps); the Men-U holds water well, but the HJM holds water even better (so I give it an extra shake); the HJM seems to require less product than the Men-U; while I have no problem with the Men-U handle (which is light plastic), the HJM handle is ergonomically very nice in my (small) hands; both the Men-U and the HJM dry quickly (though I haven't done a timed comparison). My only real problem with the Men-U is that--as my beginner's mistake in wet shaving when I started out a few months ago--it's a re-branded Omega that costs about $30 more than the Omega equivalent. I give a definite performance edge to the HJM, all the more so because (at Connaught) it currently costs about $30 less than the Men-U Premier brush. If you do prefer the latter brush, Connaught sells its Omega equivalent for about the same excellent price as the HJM.

I have the Kosmo - shaving brush, Silvertip Fibres, olive wood, 21 mm M, and honestly, I don't like it as much as my Omega Syntex. I got the Kosmo a month or so ago from the B/S/T. It is almost squeaky. I have a hard time building a strong lather compared to the Omega, where the lather explodes. I just look at the Kosmo and it looks amazing, but always leaves me disappointed.

Have tried any of these and can compare the HJM to them?

I don't have the HJM but I do have a 21mm Silvertip Fibres(tm) brush aswell, and it it leaves the animal competition far behind in terms of lather production. What I don't like as much is that it's a bit too stiff/springy, compared to my badgers. It feels more like a boar bristle brush in that regard, with some scritchiness added. Other than that, it works very well. I understand that the HJM is probably using different fibres so that might not compare. Does anyone know what they're made of? Nylon?
