Muhle R41 - I need help

Brothers:

I tried my first shave with my shiny Muhle R41 today. It was not what I hoped for.

it wasn't terrible or anything. Not too much blood. But it was very tuggy and somewhat uncomfortable. It tugged my face a lot. And I ended up with more irritation than usual. And although the shave was close, it was not much closer than what I can get with my regular mild razor.

any advice?

thanks.

John

There is a definite learning curve with the Muhle. What kind of blade were you using? I've found it likes blades like Astra SP's - but you may have to adjust the angle slightly.

How was the audible feedback? It should be loud.

Sounds like you need to try a different blade. I've tried a ton of them, and the variance is very high in the r41. I actually tried a new blade last night and dumped it half way through my first pass because it was tugging. After I switched to a combo that I know works, it was a great comfy, close shave.

I found much the same thing as the other guys with regards to the blades
The angle is a little hard to master though it took me about a week to get it under control
try some different blades but I would try to keep as many other variables(brush, cream, soap etc) as consistent as possible
I kind of hit it on my third try (I'm not entirely sure if it was the different blade or the fact that I was more used to the razor)

I will say one thing that's a definite,it was worth the wait.

good luck and let us know how you do

Phil

If you're getting tugging, I'd suggest a shallower blade angle (handle sticking out more). Start with the cap on your face, and lower down until you get blade engagement.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I used the Derby that came with the razor. The feedback was quite loud.

I will keep trying.

You might want to try using short rapid strokes so that you "cut" your beard, not "mow" it down as well as working with the blade angle. The R41 has a VERY wide blade exposure so you will get contact at a wide range of blade angles.

I find that Derby blades work very well with the R41 (at least for me anyway)

Good luck to you, John! i found it too uncomfortable as a shaver and moved on to others after giving it a try, twice.

Definitely ditch the Derby. The R41 didn't sing for me until I stopped worrying about the angle and just shaved like I was using any other razor. Just the angle though, NOT pressure!
