Moving on from the Super Platinum + blades

I have only really tried a few blades Red Personna's and Super Platinum + blades for the most part.

Both of these seem very forgiving, but I still don't get the shave I want. I still feel a little stubble left behind. I suppose I need a sharper blade.

What would you recommend above the 2 that I have used?

Astra Superior Platinum. Sharper than the two you've tried but still very smooth.

Astra blades are good. For me, the Lord blades are a little sharper than the RPIP blades. Or go whole hawg and try a Feather.

Has to be Feathers, I put off using them because alot of users said you had to perfect correct technique first. So I waited 3 months before slipping in a feather in a SS, It completely blew me way. Sharp and smooth, my whiskers stood no chance. The feather blade is the first one I turn to if I have a more then a day or two of stubble. I can see why some DE shavers only use feathers. It really is the greatest blade of our time, I can see why all other blades are compared to it. I know I do. It is more expensive, but still cheap compared to cartridges one box of ten blades is approximately the same cost as a single fusion cartridge.

Try the Astra's. I kind of judge a blade by how well it cuts through the stubble on my chin, and the Astra cuts like a hot knife through butter. Whereas other blades tend to skip for me in that area, the Astra just works. So do feathers, but my face can't handle them.

Finally got my hands on some Bolzano Superinox Inossidabiles. As a regular Feather user, my preferred blade, the Bolzanos really impressed, with sharpness just short of the Feather but an equally close, smooth shave. They aren't the cheapest of blades but I would highly suggest you give them a try.

One more Astra user here. But nice, sharp blades are to be had from Nacet, Gil Yellows. And a Super Chrome Shark might do it for you.

Feather is reckoned sharpest by consensus with Kai ranked a bit behind it along with the St. Petersburg Gillette brands.
Smoothness is lacking in each of them, according to comments I read across three forums.

Very broadly speaking, blades with coatings advertised will be somewhat smoother and/or longer lasting than ones that don't prominently hawk 'em. (I assume all blades have some sort of coating.)

Funny, I have a few less than 150 IP Blues. First getting into them. Enjoy the search!

Well after trying a feather for 5 shaves and a Astra for 5 shaves. I have decided that I don't like either of them. They are harsh meaning that they seem to dry my face out.

I even think that the super + platniums shave closer.

Could your lather be the problem and not the blade?

You should be able to get a close shave regardless of the Blades sharpness. Maybe not as smooth and maybe with some razor burn, but still close.

Dryness? how is that a factor of the blade? That would be a factor of your lather and After Shave.

Are you using an Aftershave or a Balm? It is winter, Balms are generally more moisturizing.

+1 on the Bolzano blades. Very sharp and smooth. My favorite blase. YMMV

Agree with the Astras. A little sharper and still very smooth for me.

I shaved with a feather for the first time in a while, I forgot just how sharp they really are. 24 hours later I was still pretty much smooth. I start to feel stubble after about 10 hours with other blades.
