What's new

Morrison Patriot

I just bought one of these pieces of history off the 'bay, and it looks to be in great condition. Original box and instruction sheet included. In the event that it isn't in working order, does anyone have any suggestions as to a good company or individual to send it to for restoration? It's a little early, but I bought it as a commissioning gift, and I would like to see it work before I gift it out....

There's a tutorial on Richard Binder's site called How to Restore the Filler in a Morrison Patriot

Congrats!

Thank you doubly, for the congrats and info! Hopefully the process is either easy enough to do on my own, or hard enough that I won't even try lol.

It's the latter lol

Does anyone around here know of someone with the proper expertise for this kind of job?

Yeah, it's pretty hard. It's been years since I looked into fixing mine -- I gave up and I'm pretty savvy. I was afraid of breaking it.

Anyway, look into Ron Zorn's Mainstreet Pens, he tackles anything and always does a good job. Email him.

Received the "Patriot" today, and I'm very surprised, but the only issues it has are cosmetic. I cant tell if its plate loss on the clip, or just tarnish, but the filler seems to work fine, and the nib looks to be brand new. I'm gonna say that I don't think that this pen was ever used....

You can't tease us like this. We need Pics man!

I took some Flitz to it, and it really helped a great deal. There was some tarnish on the gold when I got it. I wish I had taken some before pictures for comparison. Without further ado.

I apologize for the photography, but I'm working with a camera phone at the moment. Maybe I'll dig the wife's good camera outta storage one of these days.

Looks great -- except it appears the cap ring is loose. There is a guy ...

I'm surprised how fresh it looks.

I noticed the cap ring while i was cleaning it, the ring was black from tarnish. I'm considering gluing it in place, but don't wanna do any damage... I would really rather not send it out for such a menial little issue.

Use RTV to do it convervatively. To secure it correctly you swage it to size without adhesive.

When you said glue I was hoping you wouldn't use Superglue, RTV is inert and won't harm the cap (like many other adhesives).

The professionals charge $25, I know.

I was curious as to what RTV itself was, but after consulting my secretary google, I think thats definitely the route I'm going.

Use the clear, it won't show so much. Yeah, I should have said RTV silicone sealant, you may have some as bathtub seal.
