More Scruffy Restores

Next is a MadeRite

These are hollow. ( okay, let's all channel the ghost of Gomer Pyle)

Surprise, surprise, surprise!!

I popped out the bottom of the brush while drilling out the knot.

Should be easy to replace the bottom. Fill the void with a cork and it will be ready for the new knot.

Hey, slow down guys. I haven't done number 3 yet.

OK, number 3 is an Ever Ready 300N with nylon bristles.

At a depth of 3/16" Mr. Scruffy strikes oil. Yeehaw!!

Or is that chocolate?

The heat from the friction of the drill bits is melting whatever that is.

Either way, that Dremel bit is toast.
Gotta pull back and rethink how to get the rest of the knot out.
Looks to be slow going with a utility knife.

It's addictive isn't it ?? :001_tt2:

( Waiting for ANOTHER brush from da Bay ).

All you guys with your tools.........scissors, pliers and a knife, that's my tool kit :crying:

Thanks for the post. I can't wait for the next episode "Mr Scruffy moves to Beverly. Hills, that is."
I have had the good luck to pick up a few cheap brushes and can't wait to try my hand at restoring them. I think I will wait until after the holidays though. Keep posting the pics it is great inspiration.

I really enjoy seeing your projects step by step. Sure it's great to see before and after shots, but it's much more informative (for those of us who might like to try it ourselves) to see the intermediate steps (and occasional missteps). Keep us apprised of your progress.

I think your tool kit is the best for nylon bristle brushes. Not only does the friction from a power tool bit re-heat and melt the old adhesive, it does the same with the nylon bristles. Pretty smelly, too.

I hope that brown stuff doesn't run too deep inside the handle.
