Monsieur Balmain or Eau Sauvage?

I'm an old retired cheap so-and-so, and I want some summer citrus fragrance. I have sniffed the Dior Eau Sauvage at my local Sephora, and I liked it. I haven't been able to find the Balmain fragrance in my area, so I haven't sampled it yet. I like the price on it much better than the Eau Sauvage, and was wondering if it would be worth my while to seek it out for the savings? It is comparable to Eau Sauvage/

Thanks very much for any insight you might lend.

The two share citrus in common and are both appropriate for summer but are not all that similar IMO. Eau Sauvage dries down to a mossy base that you already know you like. Monsieur Balmain's base is woodier and a bit "dirty," not unlike the heart of Terre d'Hermes. It can wind up a bit "ashy" on the wrong day, but I actually like it better than Eau Sauvage, as I prefer woodsy scents in general. The lemon is also more photorealistic IMO and lasts a long time (longer than in Eau Sauvage). Both are good scents but not all that similar once you're past the citrus opening.

I love both but the lemon in Monsieur Balmain can't be beat. It dries down to a soft woody base and the lemon lasts longer than the lime in Eau Sauvage. Get both!

Some very good input here. Thanks for those. Tim (TBoner), thanks especially to you as this in-depth analysis really helps me decide. I must seek out the Monsieur Balmain for a sniff.

Your kindness is much appreciated.

Try 4711 Original Eau de Cologne by Maurer & Wirtz as an alternative (with respect to the suggestions already mentioned above)

Thanks for the input. I have tried 4711, but really didn't get any citrus from it. Maybe it's just my "smeller". It was OK, but it didn't last hardly any time on me. YMMV, I guess.

Might I suggest Capucci pour homme.
It is a cheap alternative to eau sauvage. Nice citrus and lasts longer than eau sauvage.
I haven't tried Balmain
