I had one NOS not too long ago. Good looking watch, just a little too sterile for me. Sold it on BST, so I know at least one other guy here has one.

Austin that second model with the date is the exact one I'm considering
Thanks Davecmu - I like the simplicity of the dial

I have one that is the inverse of the second one shown. It's a great watch, when it's in need of a battery I use a Soviet 24hour windup watch; otherwise its the Swiss Railways watch, I like it because its easy for me to read.

Classic bauhaus design, easy to read and functional. Most are quartz but mechanicals available. Many sizes and black or white faces. I think of the design along with Max Bill, Nomos, etc. but at much nicer prices. I think they are a must have for the man who likes a "watch library" to choose from.

Just found one of the original Ecomatics they made. Automatic with the all recycled brass case. A little smaller than I am used too, but very nice. Will post a picture once I get the new strap.

I've been looking for a good Bauhaus watch too. I looked at a Nomos in Europe this summer and it was too small for my taste. The Max Bill was too old-fashoned, and I didn't like the plexiglass. The only ones I haven't touched are the Stowa and Mondaine. Any idea where I could get my hands on either? Seattle?

I love Austin's second watch (black strap).

I bought one of those in the airport leaving Switzerland a number of years ago-brass case nicks very easily, automatic movement keeps great time, no date and a bit small, although that's how I like em! Overall a very nice watch and currently my only Mondaine RR watch.

Stowa has a website and newsletter, I think you can order directly from them. Mondaine is widely available online, the prices vary so it's worth looking around..
As far as seeing them in person, watch company websites often have a dealer finder feature. Stowas are very nice and given the simple case design what you see is what you get-honestly, I don't think handling them makes much difference. When I got mine there were no surprises. The straps are study buy soft and comfortable. Hope this helps.

If you're looking for a classy, well-made and utterly legible watch, you cannot go wrong with a Mondaine. They use very nice movements,m the cases are good quality steel and the original face from the 30s was voted by a panel from the Swiss Horological Institute to be one of the top ten designs of all time! Get one with the circle at the end of the second hand for extra kudos.

Couldn't think last time I was on but last time I checked the movements were by Ronda, the cases were 316L, the glass was mineral and the leather straps understated but ok; worth upgrading but no-one's gonna notice/care if you don't. Check out www.mondaine.ch which also has a link to Ronda's site. Happy time-telling....
