Military watch strap?

For some reason a pin has fallen out of the band of my Omega SMP. I have no idea why. It could have been worse, at least it fell out while I was holding the watch, not wearing it, so the watch didn't just fall off and break. I found the pin and put it back in, but it just wants to fall out now and it is not safe.

I will probably get around to taking it to the watch maker and getting it sorted soon but I am also thinking of getting a military nylon watch strap for it. This is not without precedent. James Bond wore his Rolex that way in the early movies and It is actually a comfortable, light and snug way to wear a watch.

My only problem is that most of the straps I find online are a bit cheap and nasty. I bought one on ebay for my Vostok watch and that is fine, a cheap band for a cheap watch. It seems to fit. But for the SMP I want something a bit better quality, especially since it is my most worn watch.

So, can any of you guys point me towards a better quality nylon watch strap? I kind of like the security of the one piece ones that go right under the whole watch but I am open to suggestions. Or any other straps you might think would be cool on this watch.

Maratac straps are extremely well built. They don't seem to fray and fall apart like some straps I have owned.

Check them out here:

I own several zulu and a Mil-Nato straps and love them all. Here is a Mil-Nato on my Titanium Eco-Drive.

Maratac makes a nice strap - I have one on a beater. You can find a variety of military straps at West Coast Time. I especially love having a military strap when I go in the water. They're much better than synthetic leathers or metal bracelets.

Watchadoo is an Aussie ebay seller known for selling good straps. Any pics of the Omega and Vostok? I have been meaning to get a Vostok Amphibian for some time now.

Most nylon straps are pretty thin and cheap and intended for more basic and military inspired watches. Yes the Maratec and Rhino are thicker but thats a relative thing. I've seen people wear them with a Rolex but I'm not sure they go with certain watches movies aside. They also have plainer or military type leather straps which might be a better choice.

Yep, here ya go Lenard. Amphibiany goodness. (The Omega is the blue "Bond" SMP. Plenty of pics of that one around, although I ordered a "Bond" Maratac Zulu for it last night, so I might take a picture of it with its new strap once it arrives to show you how it looks.)

Is this the look you are going for?

Here is my 'Bond' SMP on the 'bond' grey black strap Nato.

I think it looks much better on the metal band personally but each to their own...

You can get them here from the same fella.

It's been several months since I bought from him. My transaction with him was flawless.

I bought a zulu from him six weeks or so ago; no problem.

His status shows as "banned", Austin.
I need a band and his prices are great.

Have you bought from him lately?

Just an FYI, I ordered from him and received a nice email asking if I could wait until Saturday as he was out of town.
Seems like a good guy, so thanks for the tip, gentlemen.

I am really pleased with his bands. They are thicker than most of the other nato straps. I think you will like them.

Ha! That is exactly the watch I own and almost exactly the band I ordered, except I ordered the Zulu version. Glad to see it looks so good. Thanks!

Well, I'm glad I went with the majority here and bought the Maratech. I've had it on for the last 24 hours and I will say it is probably the most comfortable watch strap I've worn. Looks quite nice too.

I guess I'm in no hurry to have the original Omega bracelet repaired now. :001_smile
