Mike's Orange, Cedarwood, & Black Pepper Review

I normally don't write reviews, but I had to after using this soap:

I just received this in the mail today and decided to use it for my shave. Mike included a free sample of his Lime shave soap too, I thought that was very generous of him. I just have to point out the metal container the soap comes in, it's quite the step up from the plastic tubs mama bear puts her soaps in. I'm not very good at describing smells, but the scent is truly amazing. When you first open up the lid and take a whiff you mainly get a pleasant orange aroma, but when lathered the soap smells a little different. It opens with a fresh cut orange smell and finishes with a slight peppery smell that compliments it well.

For my shave I added a little warm water to the top of the soap and let it soak while I was in the shower. I started lathering with my Duke 2 and it exploded, more so than any soap I've used before. I applied the lather and it had this slick sheen to it. And boy was it ever slick. I started shaving with a Merkur HD loaded with a perma sharp blade. I swear I could do no wrong with this lather on my face, no matter what I did I couldn't feel a thing. The blade just glided along with great cushion. This has been one of the best shaves I've had in the past couple weeks. I finished with some Aqua Velva and my face feels great, the soap seems to moisturize well. Overall I am very satisfied. Mike, you won me over, I'll definitely be buying more in the future.

Metal rusts, plastic does not, probably why MB and most others use plastic.

I'll have to try that one soon. I ordered a bunch of Mike's samples and am finding that they last longer than I was expecting. It'll be a while before I'm done with them.

Are most people ordering tins? I was just going to order a bar when I get to it.

I believe the tins are aluminum. Rust shouldn't be an issue, also they are reusable. I may be wrong?

Nice review. I too have a tin of the o/c/bp. Mighty fine soap. Probably my favorite thus far.

A friend of mine got a sample of Mike's veggie formula soap, and wasn't aware of the scent he received; he gave it to me because it burnt him, and I am making an educated guess that this is the scent. It's orange on the top, but underneath there is a beautiful woodsy spice, and the whole thing just mixes together to create an intoxicating aroma; sweet, but not cloying; spicy, but not offensive. Unfortunately, the soap burns me as well, but man, oh man, that scent is fantastic!

That's interesting as I've never heard of anyone else having a reaction to Mike's soaps. I guess as always everyone's face is different.

I've actually had a few reactions to soaps, but never to Mike's. In my opinion, it's the finest soap around. Right there with
Cade. In fact, I've been lucky enough to test the veg prototype for Mike and it is unbelievably amazing.

Same here, I've had a few reactions to products such as TOBS, but so far Mike's is looking in the clear and to be my new favorite.

I just shaved with the Orange, Cedarwood, and Pepper a couple of days ago. Great soap. I got a sample of Windsor cologne on a towelette from DR Harris and used it after. They are made for each other. Mike's is really top-notch all the way.

Thanks, I joined last summer, but over winter I grew a beard to combat the cold a little so I didn't do a whole lot of shaving. Now that it's been so warm I've been shaving daily again, it sure is refreshing.
